Bridges Rock Gym

Friendly Notary A great place to take your kids and teens to. Plenty of space inside for all levels of rock climbers. They even have weights and cardio equipment so you can work out here daily. Their prices are reasonable and they have summer camps for kids! Highly recommend coming here if you are into rock climbing.

Traverse Fitness

C B Traverse has been wonderful for my kiddo. The coaches have been super supportive. They’ve been great at keeping my son actively engaged and encouraging a positive/growth mindset in my son. My son had started doing the open gym a little while ago - traverse is a great “ninja” (parkour-type) gym with lots of space for kids (and adults!) to drop in. Because of the great facility and the positive interactions with the helpful and encouraging coaches that supervise open gym, my son felt inspired to take classes at traverse. Not too long after starting classes, and with the encouragement of more great coaches, my son wanted to join the traverse team - and loves it! The summer camps and school break camps have also been a really fun way for my kiddo to be active during school breaks. Very happy that we found traverse - highly recommend!

Cypher Health & Fitness

Adam Arnold When I moved back to the Bay Area, I spent a lot of time researching to find the best place to continue my CrossFit journey. Im so glad I found Cypher! Every coach Ive had here is extremely attentive and really good at correcting form as well as explaining and advising during wods. Theyre all very friendly and will answer any questions you might have. The people who workout here are all great and friendly too. There is definitely a sense of community here! The gym is also very clean and spacious with a large open gym area and front area. One note... They do follow mayhem programming here. Its not my personal favorite, but others find it well suited to themselves. Just remember you can always scale the workout to something easier or substitute movements at the advice of the coach!

Recreational Sports Facility

Berkss Casp For all the whiny pansies that think nice gyms make nice bodies, go elsewhere. For those who paid to earn it, got certified, and took matters into their own hands? Well, this place doesnt dissapoint. Love it or hate it. I love it.

Chaiyo Muay Thai

Octavio Martin I’ve been training at Chaiyo Muay Thai for a while now, and I can’t recommend it enough! The coaches are highly skilled, patient, and dedicated to helping students improve, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced fighter. The gym has a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where everyone pushes each other to get better. The training is intense but rewarding, with a great mix of technique, conditioning, and real Muay Thai fundamentals. The community here is what really sets Chaiyo apart—everyone is friendly, motivated, and respectful. If you’re looking for a place to train in Richmond, this is the spot. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, or competition, you’ll find top-notch instruction and a great group of people to train with. Definitely worth checking out!

I Flip Gymnastics

Ben Emmert-Aronson This place is fantastic! We brought our kids to open gym last week for the first time and they didnt stop talking about it all week. Cant wait to use the dropoff movie night. The owner is great too, and the staff are very attentive and caring with the kids.

Bridges Fitness

Susan Park My husband and I attend classes 3-4 days a week. We love the instructor lead program and see results in our weight, balance and strength. We are both retired, and like to bike, hike, kayak and ski. Bridges program is the perfect training to keep us healthy and able to do other sports without injury. It is almost like having a personal trainer without the cost. Each session can be tailored to individual needs. It is also a small community of like minded individuals who encourage each other to keep fit and to keep with the program!

IBX Fitness

Mina Vlasic After a long time away from the gym, walking into IBX was exactly the push I needed, and Im so glad I found it. What truly sets IBX apart is the incredible, welcoming community. Its genuinely inspiring to see people of all ages and fitness levels training together. Theres no intimidating atmosphere here; the biggest competition you have is truly with yourself. The coaches are fantastic—they know exactly how to give you that gentle push and consistent encouragement without ever making you feel overwhelmed. Their guidance has been key in helping me get back into a routine safely and effectively. I also really appreciate all the additional member and community events and workshops IBX hosts. It shows a commitment not just to physical fitness, but to the overall well-being and connection of their members. If youre looking for a gym where you can find support, great coaching, and a non-judgemental community, especially if youre coming back after a break, IBX is the place to be!

Richmond Parkway YMCA

gregg naka the equipment and all are in working order. there is tons of space in the gym - not like planet phatness. it is phone and tv free - a blessing. im there to work out, not listen to game shows. the hours ares somewhat limited, but the lower price reflects that. plus, if you are on the treadmills stationary bikes, etc, there is a pretty nice view of a little valley

24 Hour Fitness

Sneha Patel Having recently joined 24Hr Fitness in El Cerrito, I wholeheartedly recommend working with Richard LaFleche, one of the personal trainers there. Richard was the trainer with whom I made an appointment for the free orientation hour that this location offers. I, over 50 and chose Richard because he has a background in injury prevention and rehab. In that first orientation, I found Richard to be the perfect mix of patience and ability to motivate. He discussed my goals in joining the gym and mapped out a workout plan using specific machines and exercises. He then proceeded to take me through each machine, adjust it for my build to ensure a correct fit (so important to avoid strain!), demonstrate the right way to use it, and determine the weight I should start with. For each machine, he noted the seat or back adjustments, as well as the weight. I left with a clear plan of action and a cheatsheet. When it came to choosing a trainer to work with me for a couple of months to kickstart my gym habit, it was a no-brainer to work with Richard. I have greatly appreciated his approach: kindness mixed with the right amount of challenge and always very clear communication. Richard starts off his sessions with a smile, and makes the effort to really connect with his clients, understanding that its the key to being able to push them harder when the time comes. He is careful about preventing strain and working out safely. He uses a scientific basis for his training and explains the what and the why in addition to the how. Thanks to Richard, Im now a confident gym go-er, familiar with the machines he trained me on, and unafraid to try new ones for some variety. I really enjoy going to the gym and leave with a feeling of accomplishment. I feel stronger and healthier already, and know I reach my goals. As Richard kept reminding me gently, its consistency that matters. If youre new to  the gym environment or to strength training, or like me, have a specific condition that made you join, Richard is the person to help you on your journey!
