Wright Forest Bushland Reserve - Cockatoo,VIC

5 /5 Anne C: Very pretty area to visit. Good mix of tracks to take you up and down throughout. The section at the top near the trestle bridge is so lovely, especially where it curves slightly to give you the view of the green fields nearby. Gorgeous.

4 /5 Grover Donüte: Dog city!!!! Blimpy loved the walk from Bailey to Wrights and back and made lots of friends along the way. Beautiful dry temperate forest with a mix of Hakea and Eucalypt. Some bird life but not much. Some litter spotted around some trees that looks almost deliberate. Like coloured wood doors that detracted from the scenery. Other than that it’s lovely.

5 /5 Gary: Some lovely shaded tracks through unspoilt forest. We took the Wright Road track from the Puffing Billy railway crossing at Wright (at the junction of Bellbird Crescent and Wright Road) , towards Cockatoo, then followed the shared walking/bicycle track, along the Boundary track and crossing Cockatoo Creek before turning into Cockatoo. Drinks and light refreshments available in the Cockatoo RSL. On a Sunday at least, not much else open, although there is an IGA grocer. About 7 kms return. You can also wall from Emerald Lake Park, which would add probably 4 kms return.

5 /5 Maddie: Love this walk! There is a decent sized car park that could fit ~30 cars that is very easy to access straight from Bailey road. The forest has so many different paths that are all well maintained and are quite wide. As it is winter it is quite muddy in parts but doesn’t cover the entire path, I would recommend walking boots or at least very sturdy shoes with good grip as parts are a little steep (but overall quite flat). Dogs are welcome but there is a sign saying they should be kept on lead. There are plenty of loops you can do that are quite short or you can make your walk a lot longer also. At the opposite end of the forest to the car park, you can walk right up to Puffing Billy’s train line. I would recommend this forest for any family, couple or person who would like to get out and is only 5 mins drive from the Main Street of Cockatoo. There is no toilet here but again you would be a 5 minute drive away.

1 /5 Carla Radke: DO NOT RECOMMEND. where me and my dog walked was great at first…little did I no the WHOLE time we where walking down hill. Had no idea we were walking downhill. The pain of walking back up was ridiculous!!!! I’m a fairly fit person as well. Me and my dog walk two hours a day regularly, everyday. Then any time I went to sit down or take a two second breather A flying insect that was stalking us The whole walk would attack me. So had to power walk all the way back uphill for around 40 minutes I was unable to give my dog a drink, because every second we stopped, we got attacked. All the positivity we experienced at the start was completely eradicated with that God forsaken horrible incline…. And the bug that left me alone when I would move, but would attack the second I would stop.
