5 /5 Amber Salinas: I delivered my daughter on 6/24 at Shands and I am so grateful that we chose to deliver here. It came highly recommended by friends. I had such a positive birth experience!! My nurses were amazing. The room was spacious and clean. Even the recovery rooms are a good size. My L&D nurse, Chelsea, was a great advocate for me and my birth plan. Everyone was genuinely so kind and attentive. They took great care of me and my baby. I wish I could give more stars. Thank you so much for giving me the best experience! I am eternally grateful.

1 /5 Terry Phelan: On September 13, 2024, we waited over eight hours at the UF Shands Labor and Delivery in Gainesville for a scheduled procedure only to have to reschedule. Finding out that this procedure should have been scheduled at 33 weeks instead of at 38 weeks (for the success of the procedure and health of the fetus and mother) is infuriating. Mother was ordered not to eat or drink at midnight before day of procedure. Combined with the night before and waiting for the procedure, mother was without food or water for over 18 hours. Is this type of abuse supposed to be tolerated? Mother, father, and grandparents all took off of work. So, there was loss of income as well as the stress of knowing that if the procedure did not work mother may need an immediate C-section. Mother and father have been rescheduled to go back on Tuesday only to possibly endure the same poor level of care and stress they received today. This is unacceptable. Yes, there were emergency c-sections and she was not in labor, but don’t you think that there would be enough doctors and staff on site and more on call to handle emergencies all the time? This was a scheduled procedure!!!! Mother and baby were brushed aside and treated as if they were unimportant. So far, the department of this hospital has shown to have poor organization and scheduling skills while putting a late-stage pregnant mother and fetus under undue stress and added risk. Not sure what to do at this point. I am hoping and praying that when the time comes, the skills of the surgeon and staff will outweigh the incredibly poor and mismanaged service that we recently received.

1 /5 Nikeriya T: The nurses and other staff here are PITIFUL wishing I could give zero out of 10 starts. What hospital environmental services team doesn’t clean a room after a woman has a baby blood is all over and all they want to do is change the trash cans. This environment is so unsanitary for myself and my child I will never come back here I wouldn’t recommend a dog comes here for care.

1 /5 Hailey Otero: After I had my two kids I requested no visits from anyone unless it was my partner they judged me for being a single mother with mental disabilities and immediately called cps. I had poor births and was constantly judged for me being unwed with biracial children and my partner being 50 while I was 18 19 years old. They lied on my partners name and verbally abused me and my partner. Traumatized me from ever wanting to go to a obgyn here in Florida.told me that my intellectual learning disability prevented me from being a mother. They took both of my child and had them put up for adoption. To the point I moved out of Florida. They told me I couldnt get my tubes tied because I was only 21 years old. Im completely traumatized and in constant depression and stress because they took my whole worlds.

5 /5 Amber Starr Banks: I have nothing but amazing things to say about the labor and delivery team. I had to have an emergency C-section. After starting my induction, my water broke and my baby’s heart rate kept dropping during contractions. They decided the best option was to go for a C-section. The anesthesiologist, Ryan Belk is the most compassionate person I have ever met in the medical field. Ever. He stayed by my side the entire procedure, encouraging me, making me comfortable and held my hand. I was terrified because this was my first child and I had planned a vaginal birth. So although it was traumatizing, I was surrounded by excellent people that knew what they were doing and, more importantly, love what they do. Dr. Wyatt is amazing!!! She is so confident in what she does. My nurses, Shelby, Suzanne, and Lexi were perfect too. Overall, Great medical staff. I gave birth to a 9lb 5oz baby boy on 2/22/24 at 11:24 a.m. ♥️♥️♥️
