3 /5 Melissa Hamilton: The medical care received here is great. No issues with that. However the billing department is horrible. I took my child to the ER in April. I tried to pay my $500.00 copay at that visit (which Iāve done multiple times) and I was told they couldnāt take it. I insisted, stating I had the money right now on a health benefits card and wanted to pay it while the money was available. Again, she refused to take my payment. I waited a couple weeks and called the billing department myself and told them I wanted to pay it over the phone (Iāve done that before too), but they also refused to take my payment. They said I had to wait for the insurance to be processed, which everyone knows can take months. I explained to them that I wanted to pay it now since I had the money available. Again, they refused my payment. Well here we are in December, & I finally received a bill. Of course now I donāt have any money left on my health card & they canāt offer me a discount unless I am uninsured. Also, I mean no disrespect at all, but when you call the billing department you canāt even get someone that works at the actual hospital. You are sent to some call center type thing where no one speaks clear English which makes it extremely hard to communicate & understand what they telling you.
I do not understand why payments canāt be made at the facility on the date of service or even by calling the billing department on a different day. Baptist Hospital will accept payment on site and allow you to call & pay over the phone. I also do not understand why people who have health insurance cannot receive financial assistance. Just because someone has insurance & works doesnāt mean we donāt also sometimes need help too.
