3 /5 Aaron: I signed up for Anytime Fitness Santa Monica in the summer shortly after they opened, and unfortunately my experience has been disappointing. I recently lost my job and requested to cancel my membership due to financial hardship. This has been a difficult time, and while they did allow me to cancel, it came with a two month fee as a penalty for ending my one year commitment early.
I was also surprised to learn that the membership was not the $15 monthly rate I believed I signed up for. It turned out to be $30 per month, and that promotional rate was only for the summer. After the promotion ended, the membership cost jumped to over $75 per month, which is more than what many premium gyms in the area charge. I take responsibility for not reading the fine print more carefully, but I trusted the information provided at sign-up and felt the pricing approach lacked transparency.
The gym itself is kept relatively clean and the 24 hour access is convenient, especially for those with irregular schedules. However, the space is very small, smaller than many hotel gyms, and the equipment options are limited. For the price, the value simply is not there.
I wish my experience had been better, but based on the lack of clarity around pricing and the overall offering for the cost, I would not sign up for Anytime Fitness again.
