Angela Blackthorne Biggs Gretchen Naughton is among the best stylists I’ve had the good fortune to find. An artist with color, she always gives me rich, beautiful color with the naturally balanced high and low lights that I love. Her hair cuts grow out even and flattering so I enjoy compliments on my hair all the time. It’s such an asset to know that my hair will always look its best. She’s a consummate professional, and a pleasure to know.

Eli Allen This was my first haircut in Humboldt county and Nina did an amazing job! I have curly hair, so I often have a hard time finding the right person to cut it but she completely nailed it on the first try. She is clearly quite experienced and well versed as a barber and I highly recommend her! Her shop is also really cool with a unique aesthetic. If you have curly hair and want it cut right, visit Nina!

Bodhi Nina is an absolute gift to Humboldt. Before I came to Ninas shop I could not find a barber who could cut my hair the way I like. Im used to a certain level of quality cuts that are easily available in places like LA and the Bay Area, but not so much Humboldt (until now of course). I really love that Nina works with you to get you a cut that actually looks good. I cant tell you how many times Ive gone to stylists who just give 5 seconds of "consultation" and give you a rushed botched cut. I cant emphasize enough about the quality of Ninas work. The shop is also a one person shop, which is great for this age of Covid. Small shop means less people in at any given time. The shop is also a wonderful space with great music and great conversation. If youre not going here youre missing out.

Andrew Ive had my hair cut by Nina a couple times, and its been an amazing haircut each time. Easily the best Ive received in Humboldt since I moved here 6 years ago. Ninas shop is always clean with a pleasing aesthetic. Its a small shop, one customer a time, which is ideal during covid. Nina also brings her dog to the shop, the sweetest pup named Brooklyn. I was convinced this is the barbershop for me when I walked in and saw the huge framed Lemmy art piece. Ill be back again this week to get my mop trimmed up. Cant recommend Nina enough! A++

Connor Lonergan I highly recommend this shop! Ive only visited twice so far but both times Ive been fully satisfied with my cut and experience. Nina, the owner and operator, is a great conversationalist along with being a top notch barber/stylist, she does a wonderful job of creating a welcoming and vibrant environment. She knows a bunch about the area as well and even recommended a tattoo parlor to me that I have since been to. She has a great taste in music too! She also has one of the cutest security guards in the area, a super sweet little pit bull named Brooklyn. My dog lives back home with my parents so getting to spend time with Brooklyn is always nice, shes super friendly and loves to be pet. Again, cant recommend this place enough!

Mr Grim I have been to most of the stylists in northern Humboldt and Nina at Humboldt Barbershop is by far the most legit! My first time in she turned a botched cut into the best mens fade I have seen, and the moment she trimmed my eyebrows and pulled the straight razor out for my neck I knew I found my barber. If you are looking for that old fashioned feel with top notch technique, look no further. Thanks so much, Nina!

Kat McLean Bobby did an amazing job on my son’s first haircut in a barber shop! My son had a pretty long mullet and decided last minute he wanted it cut short. He did an amazing fade and my son was so comfortable and relaxed during the whole process (he’s 3). I love how he asked my son what he wanted and the haircut turned out great! We will definitely be going back for his next cut!

She always takes the time to listen to exactly what I want and always keeps my lines super straight since half of my head is shaved. Plus someone that can cut my hair and also shave my head is amazing. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

Adam Bones I literally never leave reviews but in this case something must be said. I came back about 10 minutes after my original haircut to ask for him to take a little more off the top. The Barber looks me straight in the eye and says " no, I dont want to cut your hair anymore"... Absolutely flabbergasted, I asked " are you serious?" He says yeah because our energy is off and theres all these issues.... Check this out ...First of all, Ive never had a haircut where the barber wont let me look at the mirror at least periodically throughout the cut. About halfway into the cut, I asked to look at it and see where we are at. And then towards the end of the cut I asked one more time to look at the back. Apparently that qualifies as a bunch of issues to warrant the barber saying I dont want to cut your hair anymore and refusing to fix the cut. This shows a complete lack of professionalism and even less character. Would absolutely not recommend.

allan mercer If you call ahead and ask if they have walk-ins they say yes and tell you to come again the next day, just to tell you there booked and there leaving early. Either not enough barbers or just bad scheduling either way overall parents is up of a high class Barber just to be let down and then treated as if you don’t matter after now three times going into the barbershop. Trying to get a hair cut to be turned away 3 times.

Denzel Simuel My man Gio gave me one of best cuts ive ever had up in humboldt. Clean, percise , quick and did I say clean! Definitely recommend him if you trying to leave the shop feeling yourself. 2nd Review: Once again Gio has shown he goes above and beyond to make sure your cut is exactly what you want. Overall experience is exactly what I need from my barber.

Micah Marrocco Gio have me looking good! I went in look like a mountain man and left ready for a GQ photo shoot. Good dude, good conversations and he really takes his time and gets you done just right. Gio just became my go too guy. And I got in on a Sunday? Cant beat that!

Crystal Escobar I got my haircut with Samantha yesterday. Ive got to say, I always had little to no interaction with previous hairstylists and sat there awkwardly but Samantha was so friendly and funny I felt like I was talking to a friend that I havent seen in years. Not only did she do an amazing job on my hair, she also answered all my questions and gave me good suggestions for hair products to use. I will most definitely be coming back to her for future cuts.

Reba Christos Ric is awesome, always get a good cut...just had one after several months of homemade haircuts due to shelter in place. So professional, he didn’t even bring up my at home hack jobs...I did confess, I know I didn’t have to, it was obvious, more an apology to him than anything. Ric has been dyeing and cutting my hair for many years and helped me to transition from great looking colored hair to great looking white...my natural color. He helped to make that transition a lot less painful with great interim cuts and encouragement. Currently, due to Covid, the health and safety of his clientele is utmost. Signage on the door clearly explains protocol so that there is no confusion about how / when to enter, which was super helpful to me. It is so important to be appropriate and respectful of spaces that the public visits...always, and now more so. At my appointment time I was greeted at the door after he had finished routine cleaning. He has enough time scheduled between clients, was super timely despite extra measures. Safety first, masks, temperature scan, hand sanitizer for me and quick conversation, covering any questions I had and he was ready to go. Despite the fact that things are currently different than before, he made me feel comfortable and confident in his extra precautions. The salon is super clean, tidy and pleasant. Ric is a great host...and always has book and film suggestions (which is particularly welcome at the moment as my movie and book consumption has gone through the roof). I felt welcome and safe, got a great haircut...per usual. It was a treat. You can still purchase product, he’ll get it for you...one stop beauty and shopping. I got new shampoo and conditioner as I was about to run out. Thank you Ric! Always a delight.

Mystic Gardens Healing LLC Rachel is the only hair stylist and color specialist that I trust with my curly ethnic hair. I travel to see her now because I live out of the area. She tests her own products and only uses the most high quality products that have the least amount of harsh chemical effect on the hair. She also knows how to cut curly hair and color curly hair, unlike anyone Ive ever experienced. Highly recommend Rachel for all your hair needs!

Jay M Rachel is the only person I’ll let touch my curly hair. Her technique is unlike anything I’ve ever seen any other stylist do and she gets the layers right every single time. I look forward to getting my hair cut and re-shaped. And when I go in for a trim, she really does take the bare minimum off the ends. Unparalleled work. I’m a happy repeat customer. I wish I’d found her sooner!

Annalisa Rush Debi Sandoval gives facials at Panache Salon. I recommend giving her services a try. She explains things very thoroughly, asks lots of questions so she knows your needs well, uses natural and organic products, and provides a very relaxing and soothing experience! She gives face, neck and shoulder massage and has a therapeutic feature on the bed as well. My skin feels very soothed, hydrated, and pampered. My skin looks and feels very noticeably better. Maureen Chase Got a manicure from Jenn and although she was super sweet, a few things you should know before booking in to get your nails done at His and Hers: Their color selection is super small. Jenn mixes her own colors with what she has on hand. She didnt get close to the color I wanted (and I was dubious, even if she did, if shed be able to recreate it next time). I texted her the next day asking for a top coat of a color closer to what I wanted because I was not happy at all with the pink they ended up (I was looking for a very pale apricot) and... in one day, the gel polish she used had already started to peel! She replied that she was busy but could maybe squeeze me in at the end of the next day. When I asked her what time I could show up....she never replied. And today (day 2), another nail started peeling as well (...maybe she uses an inferior quality of gel polish?) Soooo...dont think Ill be going back....

Ana Renzi Been a tanning client here for a few years. I live here in McKinleyville but work on the other side of Eureka. I rush to back to McKinleyville as fast as I can to make it to the tanning beds before 5 but they are never open or like today, they were open so I grabbed my things out of the car and walked in and the 3 girls there were like no we are closed. I looked at the sign and says they are OPEN UNTILL 6pm….. There are times I call and no one answers the phone so I can’t find out if I can come in that day either, plus they don’t do appointments. I’m sure no one cares but I’m not coming back.

Ruby Christine Fabulous local salon. I received a lovely gel mani/pedi. Shannon was friendly, fun and paid close attention to every detail. Shaping and prep was not overlooked (on the mani AND the pedi) as it can be with other places, cuticles lightly and expertly trimmed, callouses cleaned up... all the things! Im picky and LOVE my nails... its about as close to perfect as it gets. Lots of fabulous current colors to choose from as well. The Parlour is easy to book online, the place is CLEAN and well maintained (a rarity imo) with reasonable prices. Will be back! Happy to have found such a great salon!

Leanne Wallace Very pricey. Wonderful atmosphere good group of women. First time I went there everything went well but very expensive. Second time I went there walked out with orange roots. Called next day to speak with Salon expert that worked on me offered to give me my money back but I didnt want my money back I wanted her to fix my hair. She said there was nothing she could do about it because it would ruin my hair if she did more highlight. Ask me to wait 2 months and then she will add more highlights like I want. Concerned that she would over process my hair. My last hairdresser processed my hair the same way every time and I didnt have a problem with it. Paid less and hair color was beautiful. Would go back to Old hairdresser but she just had a baby. I dont know what to do?

Jessica M This is the perfect friendly little salon that I see people talking about going to their whole life, for multiple generations even, and I can see why. Everyone there is sooo friendly and the whole vibe is so welcoming. I used to see Allie years ago and fell in love with her work, the salon, the Eufora products, and everything about the place! Due to pandemic, life, etc. I stopped going for a couple years and when I finally returned, due to scheduling, I ended up seeing one of their newer stylists, Carmella, and she is amazing too! She spent an entire hour of her valuable time with me just going over exactly what I wanted to do to my hair (which had seen better days). She did everything she could to make sure all the details were just how I wanted and really took the time to listen to me and create a plan to make my hair look the best possible - I just really appreciate all of the time and energy she put into making sure I walked out as happy and confident as can be. My hair looks flawless every time I walk out of here. I’ll never go anywhere else, 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone!

Sam Aldag Ive been getting my hair cut here for all 15 years of my life. Staff are all super friendly and amazing conversationalists all while doing a great job of cutting my hair. They are amazing with kids and are always a joy to be around.

Aubrey Donen If you can schedule your life around this salon then this is the one for you. Hair apts book are booked out for months so plan in advance. No one ever answers the phone so leave a message and wait for one of the elite to get back to you at her moment of choice.

Olivia Fox Shop got busy while I was getting my haircut so I got a rushed cut that I had to fix at home later. Also pretty sure the prices increased so I spent like $73. They did offer that I could come in and get it fixed for free, but I wish they’d just had the time to get it right at first.

Suzanne Abernathy The first time I came I got Naomi and she was really nice and made sure that I was satisfied with my cut. She books out pretty far (I can understand why) so I came back and got another lady. Not as nice but the cut was ok. Came back and had her again and she was rude and made me feel like I was a huge inconvenience to her, barely looked at the picture I showed her and acted like I was being unreasonable. I’ll be looking for a new salon.

Samuel Schulman I came in originally to get a small trim after a botched attempt at a home trim. Thats why theres professionals I suppose. I had to have two cuts done here today in part because the first one was butchered by the first stylist. Im refusing to mention their name because overall theyre well reviewed here and It seems that the error stems more from a failure of us to communicate with each other, tho they did cut off lengths of hair that I specifically requested not to be chopped and they told me they hadnt. That was a red flag and Im hoping its a result of an off day and not something underlying. Ultimately, she ruined my hair style which I was happy with and just wanted touched up. I came in later to have this rectified by another stylist (Serena, who I will mention by name because she did an excellent job.), and because of how radically my hair had been messed up, I asked for a partial refund because it would take close to a year to grow it back the way I had it. The girl at the counter told me that was a no-go and mentioned that they had also given me a discounted rate, as tho that was my responsibility or something I had asked for. Tho we butted heads for a moment, she was professional and handled me and my sour attitude with grace, tho there was no apology for mistakes made or an admission of wrongdoing. The lack of sympathy in a situation like this should say a lot. Im unhappy that the hairstyle I had was ruined for the price I paid (apparently it was discounted and this was held over my head despite not having been informed at checkout that it had been) and with how much time it will take to grow it back to where it was and should have been cut down to, but I am happy that Serena was able to salvage something. Its not at all what I want, but its what Ill have to put up with until it grows back in ANOTHER YEAR. I personally wont be returning, especially now that this incident has shaken my self-confidence and stolen my smile from me. The salons failure to own up to their damage (a touch up is not owning up to what happened after something this severe and taking 5" off that I didnt ask them to touch. The touch-up was for damage control, and not saving what had been destroyed) was ultimately the difference in whether or not I return again or encourage others to do the same.

Julian Baltzley They hire inexperienced workers and immediately let them start cutting hair, asked for a mid taper and this man had the side of my head cut up all the way to the top practically and not even blended. It looked like i had a mohawk. They didn’t even do my sideburns or square the back of my head despite asking. After asking for it to be fixed I was told I’d have to get it fixed by the same person who messed it up. On top of this and having an uncomfortable experience with a predatory female, I will not be going back. If you want a good haircut I’d recommend Blades in fortuna, they’re not as expensive which is humorous because the quality of their cuts is 50x better. They will even condition your hair and spray you with a little cologne, as well as line you up without even having to ask. This place used to be good but they’ve gotten lazy recently.

Tyler Wallin I really enjoy going into The Pressure Shop for my haircuts. Oscar does a great job and pays attention to detail. I have a simple cut, but I have seen him do some really great fades and more complicated styles while I have been waiting for my appointment. Scheduling and payment is super easy through their website. Sam and Oscar always have hold lively conversation with clients. I’ve been coming here for almost 2 years I think. I’m excited to see the business continue to grow.

Justice Reckis I have been going to Oscar since he first opened in Arcata. I’d been a regular at another Arcata shop and was almost always settling with the service I got from them. I saw an Instagram ad for this shop and went out on a limb. I was pleased to return to a place that ONLY gives consistent, high-level barbering services. Throughout the years since, I’ve shopped around here and there to see what other shops offer. Never because I am unhappy, but just to see what’s out there. Some shops are pretty decent, but none of them touch Oscar. So if you’re unhappy with your cuts where you’re getting them, quit playing around and book with Oscar and co.

Shawn Mudarri Best cuts in town. Hands down. Oscar and Sam do a great job over here. It’s hard to find a barber that does a good straight razor in town and Oscar does a great job. Straight every time. Sam got her fades on lock. They look great every time. If you need a good cut and a beard clean up.. look no further. You found your spot!

Ingrid Martin I was travelling and desperate for a hair cut and color - blond highlights and a pixie. I was clear about what i needed. Dena gave me an appointment; i was so happy since my town didnt have services open (covid). The color was AWFUL. Purple, orange, brass mixed from the toner ... She tried putting another brown over it which was ok, worse than when i came in but at least it was like 3/10 vs -50/10. Of course that color washed out in 4-5 days. She was very apologetic. Ok. Told me she rarely does blonds. That might have been helpful to know before she booked the appointment. Then Dena cut my hair. I was on my way out of town and had a schedule I needed to keep. She spent an extra hour trying to fix the color. When i looked at the cut, i was pretty overwhelmed by needing to get on the road, and having horrible color. Only the next day did i realize how badly she cut my hair. Very uneven, including super short pieces. Thinking it was just the color, we agreed to 50% payment. Of course, a few days after i got home, services opened back up and I went to my regular guy. Had to pay him more than what I normally pay him because he had to fix the mess. What a waste of time and money.........

Damla Gungor Dena is amazingly friendly and she genuinely cares about your life, which means your hair too! She is curious, attentive, generous, and super present. My previous hair specialist messed up my hair color and Dena did a fantastic job to create the brick red color I wanted. I LOVE IT! :)

I think after going to mediocre barbers for so long I forgot how nice it is to get a haircut from someone who actually knows what theyre doing.
