1 /5 Dorian Gray: Hands down the worst service experience I have ever had. During the 4th of July flooding across the Texas Hill Country, we were one of many families in town to pick up a scared camper…our camper was safe but our 2015 Tahoe car broke down on the trip. We had the car towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealership because we figured that was the best way to ensure timely, accurate and honest diagnostics and repair. The truck and keys were dropped off after business hours on July 6th with a detailed note attached to the keys in the after hours key drop. We had a good idea what the issue was and so we asked that the starter be repaired and a diagnostic for any other issues be run. The following day, Monday July 7, a few hours into business hours I called the dealership to ensure they received the note, keys and car. I was surprised they hadn’t called yet - so called to make sure all was on track. Initially they said they didn’t have the car or know anything about it. Told me the car and keys hadn’t been properly dropped off although we literally used the diagnosed after hours key drop for service. A few hours later the car and keys were found, exactly where I had said they’d both been dropped off.
A little weary of the level of disorder but also being a 2 hour drive away from the dealership (we live in Houston), I asked what they thought the turn around time for a diagnostic and was told I’d know something by Wednesday, two days later, July 9. For the next 13 days I texted my assigned advisor asking for an update. If I didn’t reach out, no one would contact me. In a few occasions I expressed how desperate I was for an estimate le timeline for repair. And was told time and time again that it would be any moment but it took over 2 weeks to even be given the slightest hint at what the issue was. Once the diagnostic was run I was sent a laundry list of items totaling $8,000 in repairs. Needless to say - we repaired the starter and brought the car back to Houston to be looked at by a trustworthy and reliable mechanic.
This dealership should be ashamed at the opportunistic and shady practices of their service department. I would not ever purchase a car from Covert knowing that their service department cannot be trusted or counted on.
Sadly I think the dealership felt empowered to lie to me time and time again about timing and then offering thousands in unnecessary repairs because I am a woman from out of town. It’s safe to say, they thought I was an easy target. I’ll never return to this dealership and rest assured neither will our family in Roasanky, Lockhart, Smithville and surely not Houston. Make the drive to Elgin, Austin or Houston for first class Chevrolet service - but surely stay away from Covert…where the only thing covert about their operation is transparency in timing, pricing and sexism.
