5 /5 B. Sindelir: I’d like to give a brief backstory — I came to truly know and experience a relationship with Christ four years ago. Before that, I was what you would call a CEO Christian — a Christmas and Easter Only Christian.
For a time, I attended a prosperity-teaching church — one of those “churches for the unchurched” that had all the polished marketing of a mega church, complete with the catchy slogan, “A Better Way to Do Life.” It felt welcoming at first, but as my faith grew, so did my thirst for truth. As Scripture says, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2)
I found myself longing for more than motivational messages — I needed sound doctrine, biblical teaching, and a church that didn’t just make me feel good, but challenged me to grow deeper in the Word. No matter how far I searched, I couldn’t seem to find a church that could truly satisfy this hunger.
Fast forward to last Sunday, and I realized — it took moving from Dallas to Corpus Christi to finally find it.
Looking for a new church can be daunting, but this one truly offers everything I was searching for. It offers expository teaching — verse by verse, staying faithful to the text without cherry-picking or manipulating Scripture. The congregation is a wonderful balance — not too small, but not so large that you get lost in the crowd. There are also many opportunities to serve in local community outreach, which is such a blessing.
One of the most refreshing aspects is the humility of Pastor Rod. He has no desire to be a celebrity pastor — his focus is simply teaching the Word and shepherding God’s people with love, humility, and faithfulness. I’m sure as my attendance grows, I’ll discover even more reasons to be grateful for this church family.
Bring a pen and notepad — you’ll need them! There is so much to learn under Pastor Rod’s teaching. His life and leadership genuinely reflect the fruit of the Spirit, and it’s clear that God’s hand is on this church.
• Philippians 2:3-4 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
• Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
• Matthew 23:11-12 – “The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
• Hebrews 5:13-14 – “Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature."
