1 /5 renato levis: I recently participated in a certification course at the Westside YMCA and was disappointed by how inconsistently the program was managed. It was clear that not all participants were held to the same standards— some were given flexibility on deadlines or requirements, while others were not. It felt as though the rules were applied selectively rather than fairly.
There also seemed to be a breakdown in communication between leadership (executive director) and instructors, which created confusion around expectations and decision-making. When I respectfully raised these concerns in writing, I was issued a refund without my consent-instead of being offered the opportunity to complete the course at a later date, as the original course policy allowed. That decision made it feel like I was being quietly removed, not supported.
I followed up again to clarify discrepancies and express my willingness to complete the training-but received no response at all. That silence was especially disappointing and made the entire experience feel dismissive and unprofessional.
For a program focused on preparing people for serious, safety-critical roles, I expected a much higher standard of fairness, communication, and accountability.
