Planet Fitness

Matan Radwin I think this is the simplest and best gym around here and it’s so cheap too. There’s some really solid machines here, the free weights aren’t the best but work fine. Just try to avoid coming at peak times like late afternoon on weekdays because it’s so packed that it’s hard to get a good workout. Also hella people hoard the weights and good luck ever getting a chance to use the smith machine. But honestly these are all small problems I love planet fitness

Orangetheory Fitness

Michele McMahon Have been coming to the gym for a little bit over a year now. It’s been a great way to stay motivated and on top of my goals. The staff are super friendly and make it feel fun to make it to my daily workout. The instructors are great and have been able to give feedback on my forms form or alternative exercises when needed. Highly recommend going!!!

XFit Training

Jenny Staples I really liked the class I did yesterday. I am super sore today, but I’ll be back tomorrow. It went by really fast and was very effective. My abs and arms are both sore like I did a good job.

I Flip Gymnastics

Ben Emmert-Aronson This place is fantastic! We brought our kids to open gym last week for the first time and they didnt stop talking about it all week. Cant wait to use the dropoff movie night. The owner is great too, and the staff are very attentive and caring with the kids.

Happy Hour Fitness Studio

Elana Marmorstein No matter your age, fitness level, or experience, taking a workout class at Happy Hour Fitness with Xabier will make you sweat and make you smile! He has an infectious energy, and paired with the workouts, really makes you want to push yourself in class. Every class is something unique and includes a great playlist. What really makes the studio unique in my opinion, is he has cultivated a group that all works together to push each other to be their best during the class. Classes always begin with dynamic stretching and end with core work and a cool down. I appreciate that Xabier always offers modifications for exercises to accommodate all fitness levels and is considerate of injuries or any barriers to exercise. If youre looking for a small fitness studio dedicated to fun workouts, fitness, and inclusivity, this is the place to be.

Pound 4 Pound Athletics

Kenny Moeller I cannot say enough good things about P4P and its proprietor. Jasper knows fitness. Hes an asset to the Richmond community. Pro boxer. Raised around people who approach the body with discipline. Knows exactly how to navigate injuries while building you up. At least two pieces of equipment Ive never seen before, one I hated and now I miss it. Not ready for a personal trainer? TKO classes are exactly what you need. Am I a walking billboard? No. But for the first time in a long time, I felt so good about myself. Im in better shape than I have any business being because the trust he engenders gave me the confidence to challenge myself to grow. I appreciate that he also looked out for me. Like inviting me to Thanksgiving at Richmond CoBiz. The only people hell be more dedicated to than you as his client are his children.

Get It Girl Fitness

Nominique Chico I can’t say enough great things about this fitness studio. The owner and main trainer, Coach Latona, is so passionate about helping her members reach their goals in the gym. I have been with Get It Girl since she started in 2018, and it’s been worth every penny. I lost 30+ lbs in the first year and maintained my weight loss consistently. GIG has a variety of classes, from bootcamp, hip hop step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, dance, weightlifting and so much more. No two classes are ever the same.

24 Hour Fitness

Sneha Patel Having recently joined 24Hr Fitness in El Cerrito, I wholeheartedly recommend working with Richard LaFleche, one of the personal trainers there. Richard was the trainer with whom I made an appointment for the free orientation hour that this location offers. I, over 50 and chose Richard because he has a background in injury prevention and rehab. In that first orientation, I found Richard to be the perfect mix of patience and ability to motivate. He discussed my goals in joining the gym and mapped out a workout plan using specific machines and exercises. He then proceeded to take me through each machine, adjust it for my build to ensure a correct fit (so important to avoid strain!), demonstrate the right way to use it, and determine the weight I should start with. For each machine, he noted the seat or back adjustments, as well as the weight. I left with a clear plan of action and a cheatsheet. When it came to choosing a trainer to work with me for a couple of months to kickstart my gym habit, it was a no-brainer to work with Richard. I have greatly appreciated his approach: kindness mixed with the right amount of challenge and always very clear communication. Richard starts off his sessions with a smile, and makes the effort to really connect with his clients, understanding that its the key to being able to push them harder when the time comes. He is careful about preventing strain and working out safely. He uses a scientific basis for his training and explains the what and the why in addition to the how. Thanks to Richard, Im now a confident gym go-er, familiar with the machines he trained me on, and unafraid to try new ones for some variety. I really enjoy going to the gym and leave with a feeling of accomplishment. I feel stronger and healthier already, and know I reach my goals. As Richard kept reminding me gently, its consistency that matters. If youre new to  the gym environment or to strength training, or like me, have a specific condition that made you join, Richard is the person to help you on your journey!

Bridges Fitness

Susan Park My husband and I attend classes 3-4 days a week. We love the instructor lead program and see results in our weight, balance and strength. We are both retired, and like to bike, hike, kayak and ski. Bridges program is the perfect training to keep us healthy and able to do other sports without injury. It is almost like having a personal trainer without the cost. Each session can be tailored to individual needs. It is also a small community of like minded individuals who encourage each other to keep fit and to keep with the program!
