Steamrail Victoria - Newport

Luke Bailey Note this is an active rail yard and not open to the public. Awesome bits of heritage trains which are preserved by a dedicated group of volunteers who give up countless hours to ensure that they still operate all around Melbourne and the state.

Sandy Point Nature Reserve - Newport

Mark Aidan Quite a surprise to stumble across. You walk along a narrow strip of land on a dirt / stone track. Native vegetation and then water on both sides oĺ the pathway. Some good views and quite a pleasant walk. I entered close to the boat ramp but there was another sign more open the strand side which was closed for works at May 2019.

The Cannons - Williamstown

Debi Slinger The large Armstrong Cannons (1864) in John Morley Reserve on The Strand were placed in the years after the Crimean War, to repel a possible Russian naval offence. This never came, and the two mighty guns have never been fired in anger. There are two further Armstrong guns within Fort Gellibrand. Great picnic spot, walk your dog or explore the trails. The guns point dutifully out to sea, still awaiting the attack of the Tsar’s warships. Notes; toilets nearby including water fountain for humans and dogs. Parking is an available at $5 per hour. The promenade is disabled friendly.
