5 /5 B B: Uplifting protestant church with great music, singing and a female pastor. Friendly, lots of people said hello. Communion every Sunday - open to all. Fully gay inclusive. Free coffee too. My husband said it was like a 12 Step meeting with music.

I am a proud black gay man but I know that being a child of God is what matters most. This church has taught me to see the Divine Spirit in others, even those who may be difficult to love. My relationship with God is stronger. My self-awareness has deepened. I pray this church will be around for future generations.

No matter your past or present perspective on the church, this place truly does welcome everyone with open arms. They work in the community to provide so many services people otherwise wouldn’t have access to, they teach justice and equality in the services, and they truly love every person who steps in the door. My family has been healed and grown by being a part of this community.

5 /5 Kasie Rizan: upRising is truly a welcoming place to all! The overall vibe is very healing. This is a progressive church where people from all ages and backgrounds can come to worship and find community. There is no judgement for the way that individuals express themselves. The children’s and youth ministries are growing and have become a central focus of the church. Sunday services blend traditional and liturgical components with popular music, social issues, and a fresh perspective on scripture. I love how the sermons provoke both thought and action. The congregants are very active in the Austin community and there’s always something fun going on. One of the best parts about upRising is that LGBTQ+ individuals and families are not just welcome, but celebrated, affirmed, and 100% safe! My family of 7 has been connected to this church for over three years and we love upRising!
