1 /5 Fluffster Normalpaws: RPH replaced my air filter, cabin filter, and windshield wipers one time when I had an oil change. Fine, except there was nothing wrong with my windshield wipers. They told me my old ones were cracked and I got talked into that. Then the wipers they put on were not as good as the previous ones. (This was minor but it added to the big picture in hindsight.) Then literally 300 miles later I brought it in for an inspection. At that point they told me I needed a tune up. I asked them what was involved with that exactly. They replied that I need a new air filter and cabin filter, plus other specific things. This led me to not trust them, because it makes no sense to need those filters again after only 300 miles.
Then I was having a lot of trouble getting my car to start. Then my car died at RPH while I was dropping someone off there. So they replaced the battery. Then my car continued having trouble starting at times, & RPH could not figure it out or fix it. I asked them, isn’t there some sort of testing they can do to analyze it? They replied that there was no way to diagnose the problem, if it didn’t happen right in front of them. They told me to take a video of it next time it wouldn’t start. So I lived with my car not starting sometimes for months at this point. Jump starting it a lot. Then I took it somewhere else and they immediately replaced the starter. Boom, problem finally and instantly fixed.
During one of the times I was taking it back to RPH to see why it wasn’t starting, they gave my car an inspection even though it wasn’t due until the next month, and without asking me. This meant they changed the date on my inspection so that it would be due again in only 11 months. They said they passed me on it as a favor to buy me some time, because they could see my catalytic converter was about to go. They said next time, it would definitely not pass the inspection because I need a new one. So I spent the next 11 months worrying about how much a catalytic converter was going to cost me.
Then (11 months later) I took it somewhere else for the inspection and it passed fine. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my car now and absolutely nothing wrong with the catalytic converter. Based on these things I went through, RPH is either lying thieves or completely incompetent. Doing an inspection a month early, without asking me first, seemed especially calculating. I am not an easy mark. That was their mistake. Watch out for crooks.
