5 /5 Travis Virgadamo: Moved back to Ithaca years ago and started going to the Supercuts-style chain in the mall for a fresh cut. Basically, I was paying to get a buzz cut from someone just out of beauty school. My wife finally gave me an ultimatum to find a different place…she was embarrassed to be seen in public with me for about two weeks after each “super” cut. On a tip from a friend of a friend, I stopped by the Corners Barber Shop. As soon as I walked in, I knew this was my spot: Old school vibe, no shelves filled with hair products I would be given a high pressure sale pitch to buy, and just enough NY sports-themed decor to indicate they knew their stuff. I was welcomed warmly by Al, the owner of the shop, and had some good conversation about sports and life. The first cut was great and most importantly, wife-approved. It has been about four years since that first cut. Each cut has been just as good and the conversation and friendships just keep getting better. Al and his crew are not only top notch barbers, but also top notch people. If you are looking for a new spot, come by the Corners.
