5 /5 Katie Siepierski: Such a wonderful place! I feel like places like this that carry on culture and tradition from the places many original immigrants to this area came from, have become so rare. When I was growing up, I remember there always being some sort of place or event where one could go to where parents, grandparents, great grandparents could celebrate their heritage and show the young generations a taste of what life was like in "the old country". Places like this and events such as the Czech & Slovak Festival are so valuable, we must preserve them!
Personally my family is not Czech or Slovakian (rather, my family comes from Malta, Poland, Wales and down south, Cherokee), however, one of my best friends when I was a kid, her family was Czechoslovakian and the Czech & Slovak Festival at Sokol brings back so many memories of her grandma teaching us dances, making crowns and wreaths, embroidery, and the delicious food she always made. Being able to share this with my children and immerse them in this culture is priceless!
