5 /5 Susan Elliott: When I first arrived at Life Gate Church (then The Church at La Fayette), 26 years ago, I had no idea that I would still be there today or how far the Lord would bring me during that time. While there, I have learned so much! The in-depth teaching- the charge from the pastor to not take his word for it - EVER- SEARCH THE WORD FOR YOURSELF. That is so important to our salvation. You have to know what the scriptures say, what the context is, what historically is going on in the world when the words were spoken...it all works together to give a fuller picture and better helps us to apply the Word to our lives today. My parents come to special events at the church and laugh that they have as many friends at Life Gate as they have at their church and my Dad always marvels at how much scripture used in all of the sermons. They also love the notes given every Sunday because they go back over them during the week when they have more time to study and prove everything out for themselves.
After raising one son from birth to 23 while at Life Gate and watching him go from sitting in the congregation as a baby, to Childrens Church, through our teen program of Elevation and eventually teaching Childrens Church before leaving for college, I just cant say enough about how important it is to raise up your children in the House of the Lord. Not just drop them off, but come with them, watch them grow and learn and move up in the Kingdom. He now takes a turn at leading Praise and Worship when our leader, Terry Williamson, is out of town and it just brings tears to my eyes to see him following his passion and using his talents for the Lord. Now my daughter, who is 10, is in Elevation and following in her brothers footsteps and finding her way into her purpose. There are wonderful teachers in our Youth Program to help the kids learn about Jesus and loving the Lord with all their heart, soul and strength and loving people the same way. I cant wait to watch how she grows and develops!
I look forward every week to my time with my family at church. We are a bunch of people who have hangups, faults, and sins. But we are also a bunch of people who love Jesus, love each other and want very much to show the love of Jesus to our community.
