4 /5 Michael Prasad: Searching for an ELCA Lutheran Church in Georgia can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack, but this one is very nice, in Athens. Has all the usual amenities (friendly ushers, organized pews, grape juice and wine for communion, etc.) Also wheelchair accessible. I liked the two projectors with the song lyrics and the childrens portion was fun. Its a small church but very comfortable.

The pastor who served for 18 of those years was the absolute gold standard; he is retired now, and I dont know the current pastor. Several Lutheran denominations exist; Holy Cross is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Over the years, the ELCA changed in doctrine and practice in ways that I could not affirm. My disagreement with the denomination led me to leave for a congregation of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod about three years ago. Not infrequently, though, I still wish I could go home.

First Presbyterian Church - athens

Phillips Karen The people here are very warm and accepting. The childrens ministry is fantastic. Weve made many good friends here. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a moderate church that has women in leadership roles.

Beech Haven Church

Daniel Edison I started going here back in August (2022) and have been here since. They are very biblically sound and dont shy away from the truth. They stand firm in their theology. They have a great college ministry for all students and hold different events just for them. The staff and congregation are very welcoming and very inclusive on making sure you feel welcome. Highly recommend if you are searcing for a new church family.
