5 /5 Jim Elayan: A friendly safe place to learn and ask questions. Not your traditional church by any means.
Our family calls this church home. Its a wonderful environment for children, a great coaching time for teens, and a unique learning experience for adults.
Its the combination of super friendly people, a non-judging environment thats safe for questions, and wonderful teachings from Andy Stanley and the local team that make this place so appealing.
The environment is modern and comfortable, the music is fantastic -though not traditional church music. They have super talented musicians. Its kind of like a free concert every Sunday!
Its a beautiful campus with an outdoor area that is used for events or services. Theres plenty of parking.
The kids environments are all fun and active. It is a high energy place for kids. But they also learn some valuable lessons while having fun.
There is a mix of all ages. Old folks like us, and young college kids. The level of energy is invigorating. It feels like a college campus more than a church.
Everyone on the team seems to be friendly all the time. Im not sure how thats possible but they pull it off.
We have made some great friends here, enjoyed the presentations (I have a hard time calling them sermons because they are not judging, and though based on biblical principles, you dont feel like youre being beaten over the head with a Bible). These are often practical insights into daily life and how to keep your spirits high in a world full of chaos.. very helpful and practical.
If you have questions, not sure what you believe, this is also a great place. They have what I will call educational sessions called Starting Point which are really a safe place for any kind of question.
Yes, its a church. But this is not a judging environment, but a learning environment. I see reviews from Christians who did not like this place. I can only relate our experience. What we found here was a non-judgmental path to living that is based on biblical principles. So many churches seem to try to motivate by fear. That is not something you will experience here.
There should be no question that many of the lessons are based on biblical teachings. But they are not words from on high, but messages that are delivered in ways that you will relate to. Some people dont want that.
I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a little something more in their life to check out Athens Church.
