Unfortunately, the same is not true for the doctor. I don’t know why male doctors feel the need to show off to fit women. He was unprofessional and sexist. He tried guessing my weight (even though it was on my chart) and then he insisted on showing me pictures from his bodybuilding days after sharing I was a fitness professional. He literally shared a picture in a speedo from his competition 20 years ago.
He then proceeded to click his tennis elbow, telling me my aches and pains will only get worse as I age, and that I should never squat or deadlift. I tried to explain what I thought the problem was and my medical history, but he was uninterested.
This is of course 1) not helpful 2) not productive when someone comes in injured. 3) irresponsible to tell someone to never perform those important movement patterns.
He is not an orthopedist, so I should have known better, but I thought I could get a quick X-ray and take it to a professional back home or my Physical therapist.
I find it hard to believe that a male customer would ever be subjected to having a female doctor show him a picture of her in a bikini…
To be fair, the doctor gave me a strong NSAID and a prednisone prescription to use if I needed to manage pain and inflammation until I could see my PT.
So ladies be warned - the experience will be a mixed bag depending on which doctor sees you.
Otherwise it was quick and easy - time will tell if his diagnosis was correct.
