The problem is that, at least in my case, they recommended medically unnecessary procedures to drive up the bill. I needed a simple extraction of the wisdom tooth on my lower left jaw. There is no wisdom tooth above it. So as there is no opposing tooth. With that extraction, there would never be any intention of putting in an implant.
The price for the extraction was reasonable. However, like so many dentists trying to run up a bill, The dentist insists on performing other unnecessary procedures. He insists on a bone graft. Thats about a $900 procedure. It Is appropriate if youre going to be putting in an implant. He also recommended another. Procedure where you take some blood products, mix them up, and then put them back into the socket it to promote healing. That is about another $300 procedure. Both of those are unnecessary for a simple extraction.
I guess they thought that once they had me in the chair, that I would pay anything they asked. They were wrong. I got up and walked out. I know the difference between what is medically necessary or appropriate and what is not. They could offer no explanation, except to say that the dentist insists on doing bone grafts for every extraction. So in other words, he insists on padding every extraction with an additional $900 to $1200 bill?
If you go to these dentists be prepared to have them padding your bill.
