1 /5 Alexis Lovell: I attended the well for many years and was in a really abusive relationship for most of them. When I went to speak to the founder and head Paster about it and share that my husband was addicted to drugs and was abusive, I was told to just wait it out and that, "hopefully he will divorce you." I was a very devout Christian and took divorce very seriously. No follow up from ANYONE in that church after I let him know what I was going through, no pastoral care or any care at all, to be honest. He gave me LITERALLY 2 minutes of his time. My mother was standing there with me and I was holding my infant daughter in my arms and as we walked away...I was shocked. I was also told I couldnt teach Sunday school past the age of 6th grade because I was a woman. Now that Im out of this cult, I see how pathetic and patriarchal this mans teachings are. Im so glad I didnt wait for my husband to leave me and finally woke up and did what was right for me. Im now part of a church who loves and accepts everyone and protects marginalized people and would never tell someone to stay with an abusive partner.
The well is poisoned. The water is toxic.
