5 /5 Charles Fite: From the first day we came at the invitation of our neighbors, we knew that Covenant Church was where we needed to be. When we moved to San Diego in 2017, our first church was a megachurch with great preaching and a professional level praise band. We felt very comfortable there, listening to the teaching of God’s word and enjoying wonderful worship music. It was so easy to be invisible there and not be noticed. No one knew our names and we were fine with that. But the Scripture is crystal clear that it is crucial for us to become intimate parts of the Body of Christ; loving, nurturing, encouraging and praying for one another. We need each other, and without being a real part of the fellowship, our Christian growth is stymied. So, with that conviction, we visited Covenant Church with our friends. We quickly found that in a smaller body, folks know when new people show up. And a beautiful thing about Covenant is that they make every effort to greet you and show genuine interest in you and in learning your story, which for us that was so welcoming. But Covenant goes well beyond just friendliness. As part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Covenant is very solid in its theology and the foundational authority of Scripture—a non-negotiable for us. We really appreciated the added formality of the liturgy which was missing from our former church. We have found the preaching to be excellent—relevant to everyday life, always challenging us to take the next needed step toward Jesus. We joined one of their many Community Groups—small gatherings of believers desiring to learn together through Bible study and shared fellowship—and have found it to be a life enriching vehicle toward becoming a part of a first-century-like family of believers who can trust and rely upon one another. We find the music to be very worshipful, with a careful, thoughtful blending of contemporary Christian favorites and classic hymns of the past, which we find unites us in our worship with Christians past and present. The church leadership is made up of dedicated men and women, mature in the Faith, and humbly accountable to God. Our body is very missional in its priorities, desiring to make Christ known in our community and our world. Covenant is a great church!
