Bridges Fitness

Susan Park My husband and I attend classes 3-4 days a week. We love the instructor lead program and see results in our weight, balance and strength. We are both retired, and like to bike, hike, kayak and ski. Bridges program is the perfect training to keep us healthy and able to do other sports without injury. It is almost like having a personal trainer without the cost. Each session can be tailored to individual needs. It is also a small community of like minded individuals who encourage each other to keep fit and to keep with the program!

City Sports Club

Lila Orangi I’ve been taking the Zumba classes with Alejandra at Berkeley City Sports Club @ 8:30 AM, and I love it. Alejandra has a diverse and energetic style; motivating everyone to dance and have a great time. She provides excellent and easy to follow instructions with high energy and enthusiasm suitable for all levels. She also includes new, fun music and choreography to each class. I totally enjoy, get a great workout at her classes and feel more energetic after the class. I highly recommend taking a Zumba class with Luisa Alejandra T.

Orangetheory Fitness

Michele McMahon Have been coming to the gym for a little bit over a year now. It’s been a great way to stay motivated and on top of my goals. The staff are super friendly and make it feel fun to make it to my daily workout. The instructors are great and have been able to give feedback on my forms form or alternative exercises when needed. Highly recommend going!!!

Her365 Fitness

Yvonne Jefferson I recently decided to sign up and give this gym a try since it was in my neighborhood, and it was exclusively for women, and I’m so happy I did! I don’t typically like big crowds, especially in a gym setting, so this place was perfect for me! When I went in to sign up, they were having a class, and the staff and gym members that were there were so nice and welcoming. Having 24 hour safe and secure access to the gym is a big plus for me and allows me to be able to fit working out in my schedule as it allows. The gym is equipped with everything you need to have an awesome workout session, and at the times I go, there isn’t more than a few people in at a time, which is a huge plus for me. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve signed up, and I have found that I have been attending the gym more often than I normally would when I was with a larger commercial gym, and I feel like my work outs are more focused and efficient since I feel so comfortable in the space. It feels like my own home gym away from home!! You can really curate your work outs and experience to what you want or need. If you like group exercises and a community of women to work out with – they have that OR If you’re more into a more private, personal gym experience like myself, this gym has that too!! Really the best of both worlds. If you’re on the fence about joining, give the free trial a chance, you will be happy you did!

Chaiyo Muay Thai

Octavio Martin I’ve been training at Chaiyo Muay Thai for a while now, and I can’t recommend it enough! The coaches are highly skilled, patient, and dedicated to helping students improve, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced fighter. The gym has a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where everyone pushes each other to get better. The training is intense but rewarding, with a great mix of technique, conditioning, and real Muay Thai fundamentals. The community here is what really sets Chaiyo apart—everyone is friendly, motivated, and respectful. If you’re looking for a place to train in Richmond, this is the spot. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, or competition, you’ll find top-notch instruction and a great group of people to train with. Definitely worth checking out!

Bay Area Barbell

Julian Roy Probably the best option for strength training in the Richmond/Oakland area. Power bars, combo racks, and calibrated plates galore. Heavy pulls and chalking up strongly encouraged! Would recommend!

Planet Fitness

Matan Radwin I think this is the simplest and best gym around here and it’s so cheap too. There’s some really solid machines here, the free weights aren’t the best but work fine. Just try to avoid coming at peak times like late afternoon on weekdays because it’s so packed that it’s hard to get a good workout. Also hella people hoard the weights and good luck ever getting a chance to use the smith machine. But honestly these are all small problems I love planet fitness

Traverse Fitness

C B Traverse has been wonderful for my kiddo. The coaches have been super supportive. They’ve been great at keeping my son actively engaged and encouraging a positive/growth mindset in my son. My son had started doing the open gym a little while ago - traverse is a great “ninja” (parkour-type) gym with lots of space for kids (and adults!) to drop in. Because of the great facility and the positive interactions with the helpful and encouraging coaches that supervise open gym, my son felt inspired to take classes at traverse. Not too long after starting classes, and with the encouragement of more great coaches, my son wanted to join the traverse team - and loves it! The summer camps and school break camps have also been a really fun way for my kiddo to be active during school breaks. Very happy that we found traverse - highly recommend!
