Marquez Burch I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the level of care and treatment my daughter and I received at the ER earlier today. My intention was to seek treatment for my severe throat pain and discomfort, despite being aware of the low 1.6-star review rating of the facility.
Upon arrival, the medical staff initially performed vital checks, which seemed to be in order. However, what followed was a series of concerning incidents. Firstly, the nurse inquired about my 17-month-old daughters walking abilities and when she had last seen a pediatrician, implying that her development was abnormal. I reassured her that her doctor had deemed her well within the normal range for her age group, which should have shifted the focus back to addressing our reason for visiting.
When I explained that my daughter had tested negative for both Covid-19 and the flu but I suspected she might have strep throat, the nurse displayed a surprising lack of knowledge. She stated that she had never heard of a child under four years old being affected by strep throat. I knew from past experience that my daughter had contracted strep throat multiple times before, so it was certainly a possibility. Despite this, the nurse only performed a strep test on me, completely ignoring my daughters condition.
The attending doctor then briefly examined my daughters throat, which appeared red. However, he failed to confirm whether it was indeed strep throat or any other specific illness. I also mentioned my history of laryngitis and the effective treatments I had previously received. Instead of discussing this further, the doctor disagreed with other physicians from reputable hospitals and abruptly left the room.
After approximately 15 minutes, the nurse returned with discharge papers and an unconfirmed diagnosis of acute respiratory infection for both myself and my daughter. When I inquired about oral lidocaine for my severe throat pain, the nurse suggested a specific cough drop and throat spray, which I had tried previously without success. Despite my explanation, she dismissed my concerns and advised me not to speak. As someone with urgent business matters to attend to, this response was highly unsatisfactory.
Given the adverse weather conditions at the time, I reluctantly chose to remain at the facility. However, I want to stress that I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this ER to anyone in need of medical assistance. The lack of knowledge, dismissive behavior, and inadequate treatment we experienced were simply unacceptable.
I hope that this review brings attention to the inadequacy of the care provided, and that appropriate measures are taken to prevent such incidents from happening again
