2 /5 Annie Verhey: Background: This was my first time to any orthopedist. I’ve experienced lower back pain & sciatica for 2 years after a fall. I live a very active lifestyle and my biggest concern was that the doctor wouldn’t understand how my back pain interfered with my lifestyle. When I called to make the appointment, I asked if any of the sports doctors treated spine conditions and the answer was no.
Positives: Reception was very friendly and helpful. Very short wait in the waiting room.
Drawbacks: Like another reviewer noticed, wait time between seeing nurse and doctor was more extended (30 mins in my case). I assumed he was looking over my imaging I brought, but unfortunately when he did arrive, he chose to look at it then. When I explained my sciatica & how certain endurance activities triggered a flare up, he found it comical and said that my activity level was my problem, as well being 40 years old. He did, however, reinforce the fact I was already making good self-care decisions and provided hope that I could eventually heal/minimize the pain in time. He also explained options for pain management or procedures if things worsened.
Overview: If you are an athlete or into endurance sports & maintaining your activity, this is not the place for you to help with injury/recovery of back/spine problems. But if you are looking to eliminate pain in your day-to-day life, I’m sure they can provide help.
