Their only downfall is that they believe erroneously that anxiety and depression do not classify as mental illness the same way that, for example, bipolar and schizophrenia are. Not that there is never a physiological component, but that it always generates in the heart.
Worship is top notch. They will not interrupt singing to give a pointless announcement on some church event or program. From the songs, to reciting creeds or catechisms together, to the preaching, the focus its 100 percent on God.
Most churches are program centered. Sacred city is unique in that it is group centered. Everything they do happens through their small groups. This is not a church where you will experience cheap grace and disappear. They are wonderful people who will love you gently and push you boldly. They talk transparently about their sin and will ask you questions about yours. But through it all their love is loud.
My wife struggles with clinical anxiety so it is just not possible for us to link arms with these wonderful brothers and sisters. So if you can tolerate their theological error when it comes to mental illness, this will be a place where you will grow tremendously in your faith. They are a people who take God seriously and are serious about God. Which is extremely rare these days. They will push you lovingly, forgive quickly, and learn eagerly.
