5 /5 Jon Banks: In the early 2000s, just released from prison, and homeless, I came here weekly for a meal. The food was always good, but it was about more than just the food. It was about the welcoming, the acknowledgement, the genuine caring, and warmth/friendliness. I truly mattered as a person to these folks, one of Heavenly Fathers wonderful creation. I was exhausted, and weary from looking for a job as an ex-felon in a bad economy, an understatement at the time, and a place to live, from just trying to survive. This place, and this weekly meal was about rest, restoration, and becoming whole again. I am doing very well now, am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, have a wonderful church family, and a wonderful support system. I saw the sign for the weekly friendship meal last evening as I was passing by, and decided to stop, and revisit good memories. Its still what it was back then, maybe, even more, better. I enjoyed the music of the young man playing the grand piano last evening, a nice touch. I feel much gratitude for, and toward the folks at this church, especially those who volunteer to serve at this friendship meal.
