Elaine Warmer I was in the 20 mph school zone in front of Oak Park School on Thursday when a school bus passed me going much faster than the 20 mph. If we are expected to obey the traffic limit, why dont the bus drivers have to obey the same rules.? A Concerned Citizen

Chelsea xoxo The Lake County School Operations department failed to listen to my concern about a school bus stop was an unsafe stop for the children getting on and off the bus. It took a whole year before the lake county operations department finally deemed the bus stop unsafe. Yes it took a whole year. Meaning the children at this stop were in an unsafe situation for a WHOLE YEAR. The person in charge of the bus lots (the person in-charge of approving or denying a change to any bus stop, his name is Joe) had no remorse for putting our children in an unsafe situation. After i took this to his boss, he only received a verbal warning for putting these kids in an unsafe situation for a year. Four months into this school year 2018-2019, I have been still battling for the lake county operations department to continue to look into the stops being placed in a safe spot for the kids. For the last two months, I have been requesting a meeting with the superintendent about the safety of the bus stops. Diane Kornegay the superintendent refused to meet with me and a few other parents that wanted to voice their concerns. Now if our childrens safety is not TOP PRIORITY to our superintendent, Diane Kornegay, then maybe she should sit down from her position and allow someone to step up who actually has a heart for our children and is able to listen to the concerns of us parents. I have talked with everyone in the operations department, Joe, the bus lot supervisor, Mr. Phender, Joes boss, Mr. John Carr, the operations manager, and every single one of them seemed like our childrens safety was a last priority for them. Just very disappointing that the people we are supposed to trust within the school system to care about our children and their safety, just are not doing their job with any heart.
