St Margaret Mary Catholic Church - Winter Park (FL)

4 /5 MsErynn8: This is the lowest rating i have given for a church mainly because of the inadequate Mass we attended as a couple today.Homily or reflection is required for every Sunday and Holy Obligation (Canon 767) but its non existence today when i attended Mass at 8am at this very church.Since Scripture is not a dead letter it continues to speak to us both in catechesis and in application .The priest today Fr Adam Marchese failed to understand(in my humble opinion )that a liturgical homily must hold the foremost place and is nourished in a healthy way and flourishes in a holy way by an ordained minister of the church.I hope my review will be viewed as postive feedback to improve the Sunday services offered in this church.I do understand church needs funds to help people in need but it should not take away the importance of visitors and faithfuls who attends every Sunday to listen to a priests homily nor should it be the focus of a homily!There are other ways how funds are collected and politely asked by a church for the congregation.Plz look at eg at Kulim SHJ (choose English Mass as thr other language offered here) or Minor Basillica of St Anne BM.(Choose English ) weekend weekly Masses from Malaysia- can be viewed from Youtube for guidance.Nevertheless, its a beautiful church for people to visit when you are around Winter Park.

3 /5 Milena Orjuela: The staff is very welcoming, the place is clean and in general it was a good service. The music feels very antiquated and it doesn’t inspire people to sing. I wish they will try something more modern.

1 /5 Kendall Nixon: I was busy traveling and I needed to get Sunday Obligation so I visited this parish since they had the latest time. I went to the 6PM Mass and all I can say is…no. Absolutely not! From the guitar to the modernization of the hymns to all the talking going on about everything else but the Mass right up to the very start of Mass was just a no no no. I hate to say this but this Parish had a real Non Denominational vibe going on. You can tell they were trying to appeal to a newer generation. I was flabbergasted by what I was witnessing. Not once did I feel a sense of reverence in there. Also, I’m tired of all these parishes and the flat screen tv’s everywhere. I have a lot to say but I feel bad for even writing this review. All I’m going to say is go visit for yourself and see if you enjoy it. As for me and mine we will stick to a more traditional parish like St. James in downtown whenever we visit.

5 /5 Kevin I: I am a "lapsed Catholic" in that I went through the motions as a kid, baptism, confirmation, all of that. Only recently have I started going back to mass on a regular basis. Let me just say, that I LOVE Sunday evening mass at St. Margaret Mary. Father Walsh is the nicest man, the parishioners are welcoming and it just seems like generally good people and good vibes. Generally, it is not fire and brimstone. There are other reviews that say "its not traditional enough" or things to that effect. There may be other parishes that better suit their needs. I like St Margaret Mary just as is.
