The Peniel Baptist Church is where Billy Graham was ordained. In the adjoining cemetary most of my maternal relatives are buried. Great Grandma Lillie Roberts (1894-1995) and her Bloxam. Alongside Civil War Veterans were many other ancestors, aunts, uncles. Many Great this-and-thats including my Great Great Great Grandma Mary Thomas who was a founder of the church according to the record I found. She and Henry Lucius were from Barnwell, South Carolina. They left their plantation when Sherman marched through in a fiery temper. My family history captivates me. It was hot. it was humid. It was hypnotic. It was haunting. It was hazy. it was humbling. It was heart-warming.
