Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine - PullmanM C: Worst, traumatic experience for my beloved labradoodle and family. The entire experience was terrible from lack of communication from oncology coordinator, doctor and students treating our boy that is no longer with us. I could write pages of wrongs that happened during our dogs cancer treatment but I will sum it up. Treatment plan was very last minute leaving us hanging all weekend not knowing if our dog would start treatment Monday like originally told. We were 7 hours away from home. It was not confirmed until Sunday night after several phone calls I made to ER, They said they called and left me a message in which they didn’t. My dog received 10 radiation treatments and we were sent home with discharge paperwork. So many of his negative side affects he experienced on a daily to weekly basis were not on discharge paperwork. I sent a lot of emails and pictures with questions of what was normal or not. I feel like most of the time I never really got answers if it was normal or concerning and how to treat it. Sometimes emails weren’t returned. The last week of my dogs life I sent 3 emails regarding concerns to both the oncology coordinator and doctor that I got zero response and also asked for a phone call from doctor and no response. No communication from them all week. Finally that Sunday my dog started having seizures and I called WSU ER number and told them what was happening and the weekend coordinator said they would reach out to our Dr. It took this to get an email from our dogs oncology Dr. By then it was to late our dog passed away with us all hugging and kissing him goodbye. His health deteriorated after treatment and I feel I was not being heard and treated like I was overreacting. I would never recommend anyone to go here after the experience we had. We are heartbroken. The lack of communication & compassion is inexcusable. Our boy deserved so much more.
