5 /5 John Young: Let me preface this review with two interrelated comments. First, I am a career educator with experience teaching at all educational levels, from elementary through college. Second, my wife and I have sent (so far) four of our children to the Pioneer School. So, I know what quality education looks like, and the Pioneer School provides the best Middle School experience I have ever observed. I have no idea what might prompt a reviewer to suggest that this school fosters disrespect in its students, but our experience has been the precise opposite. The Pioneer School believes in educating the whole person, with the behavioral and ethical component of the child as the highest priority. Pioneer opens its doors to students of all backgrounds and calibers, including students with alternative learning styles and students who have struggled in other educational settings. Naturally this means that some of the students struggle with behavioral issues—but this is in no way the fault of the school culture. In fact, the administrative and faculty decision to accept a variety of students with a variety of learning styles and from a variety of backgrounds is to the great credit of the school, not to its discredit or detriment. One need only attend one of Pioneer’s astounding drama performances or witness the school’s Odyssey of the Mind team in competition or sit through one of the school’s end of the year celebrations to see how careful, compassionate, and comprehensive is the educational experience provided by this school. All of this is to encourage readers of these reviews to take negative reviews with a bucketful of salt. For that matter, take mine with the same—I’m a homer and a fan for life. Go check out the school for yourself, or, more importantly, for the sake of your child’s future.
