4 /5 Mycquel Powell: I brought my then 4yr old to Hall Academy for her pre-k year and she seemed to enjoy it. I do believe that with every experience there are pros and cons. Ill start with the cons, I do wish the playground was not a dirt and wood chips type playground. Once it was hot outside and they were out there a lot my daughter would start to get styes on her eyes. I wasnt sure of exactly the reason until her doctor asked questions and we realized it was the playground. Also it seems as though that playground is a hot spot for mosquitos, my daughter would come home with so many bites including on her face. Those are fixable though. I want to also mention that although my daughter loved the teachers there, there was one teacher who seemed to have an attitude and her name is Ms Shay. I didnt make a big deal of it because when I asked my daughter about her, she genuinely seemed to like her. There is also another aide/teacher there by the name of Ms N, who very often, was very inappropriately dressed (one day she had on a tight cut off shirt with no bra on...like come on) and always sped through the parking lot of the academy. I told her once she needed to slow down because of the children and parents yet it didnt matter as I seen her continue to do it. I pray she stops before someone gets hit and there is a lawsuit. I dont want to come down hard on the academy because like I said there are pros and cons to every experience and I know Ms Hall has worked hard to get her business to where it is.
With that being said I do want to highlight the pros. Every day my daughter was greeted with a wonderful personalized good morning from Ms Shawn. I honestly cant rave enough about her! Her spirit is welcoming and always had ME motivated for the day when I left. I really believe she deserves more credit than what she is shown, she wasnt even acknowledged at my daughters prek graduation and it broke my heart. She interacts with the students and parents more than my daughters teachers. She is the one who communicated about my daughters progress with learning (because not once did I have a parent teacher conference in regards to her learning advancements) and when I told her what my daughter struggling with, she made sure to include additional homework geared in that direction. I honestly dont think it would have been the same experience without her. Also there is Ms Lovey who came into our lives as a reassuring teacher with the "village" mentality and I know its because of her that my daughter was able to graduate from that school. My daughter would always say "Ms Lovey protects us" and as a first time mom, that filled my heart and spirit with so much joy that I shed a tear that night. She always tells me that she understands the struggle of raising a daughter and lets me know that Im doing a great job. She also lets me know, in the most respectful of ways, when my daughter needed some sort of correction which is always appreciated because again as a first time mom (and with no real village of my own) Im learning as I go and she is a mom of daughters, one of whom I met and adore, so her advice was always welcomed. Oh and my daughter really loved Ms Sky (even though Ive only had 1 conversation with her, ever) who was another teacher of my daughter.
Very long review yet overall Im satisfied with Hall Academy and believe that it has the potential for greatness. Ms Shawn and Ms Lovey, Ill forever be grateful for the educators you are and the love youve poured into me and my daughter!
