UMass Global - Monterey Lindsy Doan: I was very disappointed with my experiences here. The advisors that I had were unhelpful and often unprofessional. Their 24 business hour policy of answering emails is a complete joke. Much of my Early Childhood Development practices were based on elementary school policies, rather than practices of theorists. Im really hoping that their ECE degree reorganized to include practices and effective teaching focusing on the whole child, rather than the thematic lessons that focuses on in a box learning. I valued my M.A. readings, but did not appreciate the difficulty with correspondence with professor. There were many classes in which teachers did not comment on my papers or even in discussion boards. Why do we have professors with a wealth of experience and PHDs if all I can expect is a robotic A that seemed to appear in the gradebook and no direction or extension to discussion. Online courses are convenient and requires a lot of independence, but it doesnt make sense to have classes with little to no guidance from a professor. I almost felt like my As were meaningless because of the lack of methods used to push me deeper. If I wanted to read and write essays without feedback, I couldve done that for free. SJSU - San Jose Jason M: Great university for learning great skills for the work force to be able to make a difference in the world. Started off as a Business major and had some wonderful professors with tech and Fortune 500 experience. I ended up switching to Biology and had the most life memorable experience. SJSU will always have a special place in my heart. I promise you this, they will not cater to spoiled brats and that will definitely prepare you for the real world. Monterey College of Law - Seaside Reemer 618: Disappointed that veterans cannot use military benefits to attend. Evidently, they could not figure out how to get approved. I know their non-aba accreditation was not the issue, because other schools with that accreditation are on the approved list. The only other requirements to get approved is to pay a fee and be transparent with statistics from the program. Not sure what happened, but wish I could have attended with my veteran benefits I earned through my deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Dont know what Im going to do now. I may move somewhere to be closer to an approved school. Sure would have been nice attending the school in my local town. Napa Valley College - Napa DanicaDaki Leonarda: This community college really helped me get back on my feet, and I couldnât be more grateful. Compared to the other local colleges Iâve attended, this one stands out in every way. The faculty are passionate about their subjects and genuinely care about their students success. Most of the professor Iâve had has been not only knowledgeable but also approachable and kind.
The campus atmosphere is peaceful and quietâperfect for focusing on your studies. The dorms are clean and comfortable, although, like much of California, the cost of living is on the higher side. That said, the sense of community here more than makes up for it. Whether itâs the staff, professors, or fellow students, everyone is respectful, supportive, and easy to get along with.
If youre looking for a college with a welcoming environment, quality education, and a calm place to grow, this is definitely worth considering.
