5 /5 Shariff Johannes: Bard High School Early College Queens is an extraordinary school in New York City. Along with the rigorous, comprehensive, inter-disciplinary, and pervasive academic program, Bard offers students a unique environment to grow morally. This is evident when considering that BHSECQ was the first school to install a single-occupancy, gender-mutual bathroom. It is also clear when remembering the walk-out staged by students and encouraged by professors in response to the injustice surrounding police brutality currently gripping the entire country. Even more laudable, the school actively incorporates tolerance and, even more so, acceptance into the curriculum wherever possible, including the showcasing of the LGBTQ selection in its library during the second semester of its 2014 Fall -2015 Spring year. Headed by the wonderful Val Thompson, Bard High School Early College Queens is possibly the single best option to consider when enrolling in the NYC public school system, or any school system for that matter.
