Texas Tech University - Junction Tracy Torbett: I spent a weekend here in early March with a Christian women’s retreat. The facilities met our needs wonderfully and the staff were very friendly. The cafeteria food was delicious. We enjoyed walking the trails and looking at the deer grazing. It was a good place to get away from the everyday and be surrounded by quiet and nice views. Would definitely use this facility again. Austin College - Sherman Pluto Princess: Austin College has never been anything, but a positive experience for me. As a sophomore, I’ve fallen in love with the academic opportunities on this campus. The class work may be challenging, but AC never leaves you without a support system. With small classroom settings, professors are available to help with lessons or assignments all throughout class. Office hours are always available for outside help and there are even of free tutoring opportunities.
As far as extra curricular activities, there are tons of them! Between Greek Life, personal expression clubs, language clubs and service groups… no interest goes unmet. If Greek life or clubs aren’t your thing, CAB (Campus Activity Board) makes sure there are events almost every night for students to take a break and relax with.
Campus life is great, but to help prepare us for graduate life as well, Career Services strives to get every student career-ready. They offer Career-Readiness Checks, mock interviews, internship opportunities, resume critiques and more to ensure that every student feels prepared for the real world after graduating.
Opportunities are endless here. I’m confident that by the time I leave Austin College, I will be better because of it. UTRGV Regional Academic Health Center - Harlingen Chuy Lozano: Great place to study. If youre not a UTRGV student youll need to use an Ethernet cord to access the internet. The library is mostly quiet and the staff is very friendly. It does get cold so bring a jacket. Texas State Technical College Harlingen - Harlingen A Mendoza: Never answer the phones or emails, good luck trying to get in touch with an enrollment coach even if you’ve set up an in person appointment with them. It’s like they’re trying to dodge a debt and any enrolling student is the debt collector. Ridiculous. Southern Careers Institute - Harlingen - Harlingen Vicky Lucio: My experience working at Southern Careers Institute was disappointing due to a consistently hostile work environment. Management showed little empathy toward staff concerns, and favoritism was a clear and ongoing issue. Certain employees were given preferential treatment regardless of merit, which affected team morale and fairness. Concerns raised were often dismissed, making it difficult to feel heard or supported. I hope the company takes meaningful steps toward improving its leadership practices and workplace culture.
