David Schaffer Seeing that they have been getting rain in Los Angeles the last few days, I am reminded of a situation that developed here during this previous spring semester, when one of my kids attended.
When we took them to the school in January, it was during the atmospheric rivers that were deluding the city. Like many buildings in SoCal, this one has a partial outdoor exposure, which can cause problems during times of heavy rain. There was water buildup in the hallway that accesses the residential units while we were moving in. I wouldnt call it flooding, but it was at least puddling, and an inconvenience while moving in.
I figured rain that heavy was so unusual it wouldnt be a persistent problem, but it turned out even heavier rain was yet to come. My kid reported that water buildup was an issue through much of the semester, and I reported it to the L.A. facility first, then later to the main campus in Boston. I did get a response after contacting Boston, coming from the L.A. facility, telling me that they would be addressing the problem.
I hope this review will help keep the issue in front of them. Heavy rains are infrequent in L.A. but they are not unheard of. I would not expect Emerson L.A. to keep snow clearing equipment readily on hand, but they need to install some drainage, or at least to have water removal equipment on site to deal with periods of heavy rain.
The 3 rating is not indicative of my kids overall education experience at Emerson: based on their performance and level of fulfillment, I would have to rate that a 5. I will add that the security and maintenance staff at this place could have been more "customer oriented" toward the students families, based on my experience, but my main concern for future students here is that they are able to get to and from their living quarters safely.
UPDATE: Just a few days after I wrote this review, Hurricane/TropStorm Hillary came barreling in and dropped the most rain yet this year! Its going to be 3+ inches within 24 hours. I recommend anyone who is on premise at Emerson L.A. at this time to check the entrance to the residential hallway, right beside the security desk.

Keith Johnson Attended a meeting here (Hollywood4WRD) great facility, large outdoor patio was perfect for the events meet & greet and refreshments. Room for our meeting was great, sound system & audio visual setup top notch. Lots of parking, including bicycle and they have lots of security (which is much needed in Hollywood with our current state of affairs). Unique building/architecture.
