5 /5 Peter James: Im a single dad with two kids age 7 1/2 and 6. It took me a long time to find a church where my kids felt comfortable and enjoyed going AND where I had the community and solid teaching that I needed as well. When I heard that my friend of 17 years and my girlfriend just so happened to be going to the same small church in Pasadena, I had to check it out.
I personally needed a church that was theologically solid, preaching from the text and not jumping around scripture to make people feel comfortable. I also needed a place that had transparent and authentic community where I could be imperfect and flawed and still feel like I fit in. This church fulfills both needs wonderfully.
My kids also very quickly found friends there and often dont want to leave. Its the first church weve been to out of half a dozen where the kids are excited when I tell them its a Sunday and were going to church!
As you can imagine from being a single father, I have a rough and messy past and that has never ever been a problem when connecting with people here. Even though its a reformed, sola scriptura church, there is no judgment for those that come in with some scars and baggage. Thats incredibly refreshing. Come visit the church this Sunday. It may just be the (imperfect but genuine) community youve needed for a long time.
