1 /5 John Brossart: I hate having to leave such a negative review for St. Josephs church, but attending mass there was honestly the worst experience I have had in church in decades. We attended a week day low mass on 12/27/23.
I was looking forward to participating in a Latin liturgy when we were visiting Crescent City as it is something that is not often available at parishes near my home. Unfortunately, the priest who celebrated the mass made the experience virtually intolerable.
First, he spoke so fast and so indistinctly as to make it impossible to follow the prayers. (Granted, what Latin I learned when I was an alter boy is pretty rusty, but I would guess I am not alone in that.)
Second and more troubling, his homily did not address the readings for the day and did not address the love and warmth of God for us sinners. Instead, it was a diatribe against, receiving communion in the hand, against persons in bad marriages, against giving blessings to persons unable to receive communion, and against Protestants of all stripes. To frost the cake of negativity, he didnt just constructively disagree with people, he apparently felt the need to ridicule anyone who did not see Catholicism exactly as he did.
