1 /5 Nick: WARNING: If youre intending on going here for the Traditional Latin Mass. I had just moved to Tulare County. We also had just had a baby. We went to Mass there for the first time. After Mass, we went to approach the priest. For some reason, as I approached, he looked me up and down, with a suspicious look. As if though he was sizing me up to fight. For context, we were all dressed to the traditonal Catholic standard(tie and slacks, veils and Marian modesty) It was very off putting but I just figured it was a quirk of his. When I got to him, I introduced myself, my wife and my children. He continued to have that unpleasant look. He did not introduce himself back and he didnt even turn towards us. He just had his head turned to the side. All he said was "ok". So I went ahead and told him we had just moved to the area and we had our youngest. I asked if we could set up a baptism. He said that he only does that for active parishioners. So I said we had just moved there and would make that our parish home because we only go to the Traditional Mass. He said he usually requires people to active parishioners already because people say they will be then leave. So I asked him how long we would have to wait to prove it to him. He said 4-6 months. Any Traditional Catholic knows that is a huge no go. The Church teaches baptism should be done ASAP. I said I cant have her go that long without being baptized, well just have a Traditional priest we know in Bakersfield do it. He said "do what you have to do". I have been in Traditional Latin Mass parishes all over the country and have never had an encounter like this. And ive had some grumpy priests. We since moved out of state but if you live south of Fresno, Id advise driving to the SSPX chapel in Bakersfield.
