3 /5 Elizabeth Hickman: I absolutely loved this spa when it was located in South Lake Tahoe. My mom and I enjoyed coming here every summer when she comes to town to visit. Last Christmas, she purchased a gift certificate for me. Unfortunately, I decided to wait to use it until she came up to visit so that we could go together. I booked our appointments for 90 minute hot stone massages about a month in advance. We were looking forward to it and I was excited to redeem my gift certificate! About a week before our appointment, I received a call that the spa was closing permanently by the end of the day and our appointment would be cancelled. I inquired how I would be able to use my gift certificate and was told that they were still working that out, and that they might be launching an online store for product, or that my gift card would never expire and would always be valid at their Napa location. Note that Napa is 3 1/2 hours away from me. Unfortunately, because they closed with no notice, I didn’t have the opportunity to reschedule my massage appointment before they closed or to even go in to purchase any skin or body care products. I simply didn’t want the gift certificate to go to waste, but figured I would give the business time to sort something out. This was in July. In October, I decided to reach out again. This time, I sent an email explaining how my appointment was cancelled and I never had an opportunity to use the gift certificate and was wondering what they were offering to customers of the South Lake Tahoe location. I explained that traveling 3 1/2 hours to their Napa location for a massage is unrealistic. I received a quick reply from someone by the name of Kimberly who asked for the gift card number and said they had been issuing credit for the unused balance. I replied back with the gift card number and never received any further responses. Four days later, I emailed again, stating I was told credit was being issued for unused gift card balances and was wondering how to move forward with getting my gift card credit. This time, I got a response saying they didn’t know who told me they were issuing credit for South Lake Tahoe gift certificates and that they could still be used in the Napa location and that they would be launching an online product storefront. I wrote back with a screenshot of the email I had received signed by Kimberly stating they were issuing credit, and also asked when the online store would be opening and received no response.
I am disappointed because I had really enjoyed visiting the South Lake Tahoe location. I was given no notice about them closing in a timely manner, and driving 3 1/2 hours to their other location would involve purchasing a hotel room and the gas to get there and it just isn’t realistic for me to make a trip like that just to get a massage. However, I don’t want the generous gift from my mom to go to waste and would really love more information about how to resolve this issue.
