1 /5 Austin Fernald: I had a disappointing and frustrating experience at AAA’s San Rafael Auto Repair Center.
I was quoted $257 via email for an AC diagnostic and recharge, which was supposed to include leak checks and testing. When I brought my vehicle in, I was given a lower quote of $241—but later received a call stating they needed more time to diagnose. Eventually, I was told the total would be $507, and that a relay had already been replaced without my authorization.
I made it clear that I had not approved this extra work or the associated cost, yet the service rep became argumentative and ended the call. Despite this, I was still charged $436.49 upon pickup.
This experience was unacceptable—lack of transparency, unauthorized work, and poor communication. I had chosen AAA because of their reputation for trust, but this incident has seriously impacted my view of the brand.
