PHAROS Athletic Club

Anet S Ive loved my experience at Pharos! The community is genuinely welcoming and the coaches are outstanding -- they offer form corrections and always suggest modifications when I need them. The facility prioritizes function over flashiness, with everything you need for a great workout. Its refreshingly unpretentious compared to other gyms Ive tried.

Zero Givens

Grace G Joining Zero Givens and the 504 Challenge has helped me both with my physical and mental health. It has given me the confidence, determination, will power needed to accomplish my goals. I must say I was surprisingly shocked when I found out I was under 30% body fat. The gym, programs, coaches; all contribute to helping you meet your goals, many times surpassing them. There are amazing coaches who are not afraid to tell what must be done. They will help you through every step of your journey. You may feel challenged at times, like you cant succeed, but this is the time where you must push yourself and not give up. Always remember "Nothing is Given, Everything is Earned."

PLYO FITNESS at HOLLYWOOD GYM

John Reding I hate fitness classes. Like, really. So I just took the plunge and decided to do PlyoFitness for six weeks. This place is different. Steve has a wonderful way of actually making exercise fun. Hes created an environment with social support in a non-judgemental format, thats challenging for both the daily walker to pro bodybuilder. I still hate fitness classes, but I love PlyoFitness.

Los Angeles Athletic Club

Andy Terzyan This review is for the gym/ club itself, NOT the hotel. My wife and I toured the facility recently and spent the majority of the day there eating, exercising, studying, etc. LAAC is a diamond in the rough and has A LOT of potential to be even better. The gym isn’t as big as other commercial gyms in terms of the machines and workout equipment but it has everything you need. The pool is amazing and one of the deepest I’ve seen in the area. The other amenities are also awesome and it’s a great place to hang out, meet people, grab a bite or drink. The only complaint I have is that while certain areas are very upscale and have been remodeled, other areas haven’t been touched in years/ decades. If a decent amount is set aside to repaint/ remodel/ replace carpets etc. LAAC will be unmatched. Some of the higher floors dedicated to some of the work out classes/ handball and whatnot are tired and are in need to be remodeled and carpets need to be taken out. Since they are under new management, I’m staying hopeful that some of these areas will be worked on which will push LAAC to flourish for another 100 years.

GymTonic

Larry Baird Best kept secret in central LA! Convenient to Culver City, Whole Foods, Baldwin Hills, West Adams - and the metro E line train. Friendly staff and clientele - with new equipment and plenty of it! Always immaculately clean, high-end locker/shower/dry sauna areas. Most importantly, you are never waiting for machines or equipment.

SURFCORE Fitness

Paul Bellezza Ive been going to Surfcore Fitness for about two years now, and its hard to overstate what this community has meant to me. Ive been to a lot of gyms in LA over the years and was used to working out alone -- but I realized I missed having people to share the journey with. I came to Surfcore at a point in my life when I knew I needed to make some real changes to my health, and Carlos and Jose were so supportive and encouraging. After my first year, I got a clean bill of health from my doctor, and they genuinely celebrated that with me. Through the six-week challenges and all the day-to-day workouts, Ive learned how to better balance my eating, my fitness, and my mindset. The workouts are tough but fun, and the people are what make it special. Its supportive, hilarious, and full of good energy. Ive made real friends here -- something thats hard to do as an adult in L.A. And honestly, I really appreciate talking both workout shop and sharing the latest tea at Diva Fridays. Sadly, I had to move out of the area and I really miss my routine with the crew. Surfcore had become my third space -- a place between work and home where I felt grounded and be supported by friendly folk. Truly one of a kind.

EōS Fitness

Kat Demaline Pros: The equipment is high quality, the gym culture is positive, there are plenty of lockers, the staff is approachable and the environment feels safe with minimal creepers. Thanks to a recent renovation, the equipment is some of the best Ive used. Cons: The equipment is often dirty since the gym doesnt provide wipes (they have paper towels and spray but the extra effort turns people off). Youll need to bring your own clips for lifting and the parking validation system can be a bit of a hassle.
