5 /5 Maria Edge: This is a call to every parent going through a CPS investigation: you do not have to face this alone.
CPS is not on your side. They will say they’re protecting your children, but the system is broken and dangerous — especially for children with special needs. I have two daughters — one 15, one 4 — both on the autism spectrum. I knew from experience how easily CPS misinterprets autism-related behaviors as abuse. I had been investigated before, even when no evidence was ever found. But this time, it escalated fast.
It all began when I reached out to a crisis line for help with my daughter’s autism-related behaviors. Instead of receiving help, I was reported to CPS. The fear became real the moment I saw, through my security camera, a police officer standing at my front door. My heart sank. I couldn’t sleep, terrified my daughters — especially my 4-year-old, who has high needs— could be taken and placed in a system completely unprepared to meet her needs.
The foster care system is not the safety net they portray. Statistics show that up to 1 in 3 children who grow up in foster care end up homeless, incarcerated, or deceased. I knew I had to protect my children — not just from the allegations, but from the system itself.
That’s when I began my search for an attorney. I read countless reviews, and interviewed several. The moment I spoke to Mo, I knew he was the person I needed. When your children are at risk, you don’t search for the cheapest lawyer — you search for the best, the one who can truly protect your family and Mo it is that lawyer.
From the very first consultation, Mo showed incredible kindness, patience, and compassion. Even when I was panicked or overwhelmed, he listened without judgment. Throughout the process, whenever I had questions or fears (and there were many), Mo was always there — answering my calls, responding quickly, and always following through. His availability gave me strength during the darkest time of my life.
Beyond his responsiveness, Mo is sharp, strategic, and extremely knowledgeable. He quickly understood both the legal complexities and the unique needs of my daughters. Most importantly, he didn’t just see a case — he saw my family.
Once CPS realized I had strong legal representation, their entire approach shifted. I truly believe that if I hadn’t hired Mo, and if CPS knew I didn’t have a strong lawyer in my corner, they would have removed my children from my care before I even had a chance to explain myself. That’s how quickly these situations can spiral if you’re unprotected.
I cannot stress this enough: you should never face CPS alone. The system will overwhelm you if you’re unrepresented. Mo stood by my side and gave me the protection and confidence to face what no parent should ever have to endure.
Thankfully, the case ultimately closed. Looking back, I am forever grateful that I found Mo when I did. His representation made all the difference and protected my daughters from a system that could have destroyed them.
I wholeheartedly recommend Mo to any parent facing CPS or child protection matters. If you’re terrified and overwhelmed, please know: you do not have to go through this alone. Mo is brilliant, strategic, compassionate, and fully committed to protecting families when they need it most.
Thank you, Mo, for standing with my family during the most difficult time of our lives. You will always have my deepest gratitude.
