The Best 18 Hair Salon in Monterey, CA (part 2)

Martha Johnson-Peterlin This is a fabulous salon and so beautiful inside. Everyone is so nice and friendly. Zoe has been doing my hair for 6 years. She is an exceptional Stylist, who is an expert with blonde highlights and haircuts. She is also a wonderful lady. It’s always such a treat to get my hair done by her.

Emma John I am new to town, which the owner and my stylist were aware of. I got lost on my way to the salon and was about 11 minutes late. I do not text and drive otherwise I would’ve reached out to let them know. When I arrived and was asked how I could be helped I stated “I am here for my appointment with ——.” The response I got from the stylist was, “ oh well she left since you’re late. She thought you just weren’t coming. Have a seat.” This made me extremely uncomfortable as I am sure it would make anyone. My stylist did return to the salon and was nice throughout the service. However, I felt like I was the butt of the joke throughout the service amongst the other stylist. On multiple occasions I caught the other stylist making eye contact and laughing at me/my responses. Of course this is all subjective but it did not seem to be a coincidence. I requested to have my hair dyed a deep dark brown with red undertones/highlights (I was a faded cowboy copper). I showed 3 different photos. I always give the stylist full control as I trust their professionalism and expertise. I left with dark roots that faded into my faded cowboy copper the remainder of my hair length. I did not notice this in the salon because I was so uncomfortable after my experience that I couldn’t wait to run out of there. The service total ended up being $230, which is reasonable for a good experience and to receive what you expected. I move around a ton and have had my hair cut, colored, styled, etc in many states/cities. I am always the new customer and have never left a salon feeling so down about myself. I usually leave excited rushing home to show my husband. So for that price to not get the color I wanted and to have left with a pit in my stomach, it’s disappointing. I want to reiterate that my stylist was nice and I am hopeful she would’ve tweaked the color if I would’ve noticed it while still in the salon. I just didn’t have the confidence to stay. I am saddened by the experience.

Thomas Chase Helms Salon 506 is warm and inviting. It has an upscale and posh feel without the attitude that sometimes goes along with that. All of the stylist are super friendly and extremely talented. Tiffany has done my hair exclusively for 5 years and I wont go anywhere else.

heidi sutton I have insane hair- half curly, half straight- and acres of it. Cherie is INCREDIBLE. She is not only super chill, creative, stylish and funny, but she has been able to tame my wild beast into submission and even gave me a cute set of bangs that Ive been able to maintain for over two years now. Her husband Pete also gave me a trim once and did a stellar job. This salon is well located (hello Alta Bakery after), ultra clean, and hip. Definite 5 star experience. Kind humans work here that will make your haggard hair happy.

Rachel Williams I was nervous about taking some length off, and not only did Jessica do a wonderful job, but she was warm, friendly, and understanding when I was a bit indecisive. I finally found the right stylist for me!

Erin Bacon Annie is an artist! I gave her a terrible description of the style of haircut I wanted and she gave me a perfect version regardless. My hair went from heavy and shapeless to a great face-framing shag. I struggle with finding a complimentary style when my hair is longer, and Im happy with my hair for the first time in a long time! Im also awful at / hate small talk, and it was nice to have an efficient cut in comfortable silence. Lastly, I walked away with some great products, but I picked them because they smell heavenly and work well, not because the staff pushed them on me. Awesome experience all around, will happily be a regular here.

Caroline This place has only really talented stylists. I’ve been seeing Sally lately and it’s been some of the best cuts of my life. As we all know it is so hard to find a reliable place in this area to trust for hair, Citizen Hair is a well- known oasis in the desert. The owner and stylist Harmony does a great job of keeping this place full of wonderful people and plants. All the stars. Thankful for this space! I never take after photos, but Instagram has all the pics the prove it.

Joseph Matos Shear Addiction Barbershop & Hair Studio is in a great area, the atmosphere is comfortable and stylish, and my long hair cut with Andersen was awesome! A quick consultation and then hair wash, cut, and a hot towel compress after shaving my neckline. Couldnt ask for more, will definitely be returning for future cuts! Also looking forward to the new location. 5/5!

Chad Balester Honestly, I do not like to write bad reviews and the hairdresser was a nice guy ,but when I asked him- before we started the haircut, how long he had been cutting hair, he changed the subject. I then asked him again into the haircut and he said two years, this man being an older gentleman. During the entire hair cut we were not facing the mirror but facing away, so I could not see what was going on. He offered to shave me, on the house, but then in the end I was charged for the shave too. The haircut itself is not good, he did nothing to layer in the sides, it. a mess, honestly I should have let my mother cut it. It is lopsided, it looks unprofessional, I gave him a tip anyway but sorry - I thought I would give this a few days but this haircut is not a good one and I paid over 70 dollars for it to someone who has only been cutting hair for a few years and didnt want me to see in the mirror. I am sorry to write this review but I have to get my hair cut again, and I paid a lot of money for something , and I felt I was not dealt with honestly . I only give a second star because he was a nice guy, but thats not good enough is it?

Jules Dye Hector was great! He clearly has great knowledge of his craft. He took a brief look at my hair and pretty much immediately told me the best way to have it cut and styled--and he was totally spot on, Im really pleased with the end result. Ive also gotten my hair cut by Elmer and hes also great! The atmosphere in the shop is really relaxed and friendly, and everyone was very friendly and gracious. Definitely recommend!

Jennifer Rudolph Alex is amazing. I had a 60 minute facial and brow wax and it felt great. She is professional, kind and fun. Great way to start the day being pampered. The Aveda products smell and feel great and the Salon is very welcoming. On-site parking is available which is hard to find in that area and they have a bike rack in the back in case you want to enjoy the rec-trail on your way to and from....Highly recommend.

Kelley Emily gave me the best haircut and full highlight that I’ve had in a looong time. She really listened to what I wanted and got the color just right

L Kinsey Tulasara Custom Facial Treatment I met with Alex yesterday for a beautiful facial. I went in with my face feeling dry and itchy and left with it feeling soft and rejuvenated. Alex’s spa room was peaceful and relaxing. It was everything you would want to feel after a facial. I loved how she customized the facial to my skins needs. Alex was also a wealth of information on the Aveda products (without the pressure to purchase) and gave me some helpful everyday pointers. I highly recommend a facial or any of her treatments. She aims to please and wants your experience to be the highlight of your day. Also, a shout out to Sandi for my monthly haircuts and root touch ups. You have a very happy client!

jenbleu56 I had the good fortune of finding a fantastic colorist at In Bloom Salon! Im new to the area & needed to find a great colorist, & Im happy to report I found one here! Jillian did an outstanding job making my hair color look natural & shiny, covering incoming greys coming in from a bad color job from a previous colorist in Capitola. Jillian gave me superstar, personable customer service with a professional knowledge of Aveda color. Im more than pleased with this first appointment & looking forward to many more!

Rebecca Rotter Trebino Michele is the best! I had my consultation for my extensions in May and she was so knowledgeable about the different types of extensions and recommended what was best for my hair type. She ordered two different color extensions in order to custom blend the color to match my natural hair and it is absolutely seamless. Her attention to detail is unmatched and if something isn’t just right she will make it right at any time. She keeps your hair and scalp health at the forefront of her business as well so I never worry about my natural hair getting damaged. Plus she is the sweetest and so nice to chat with during services! Would recommend her to anyone looking for extensions. They are an investment after all!

Sasha Welkom Michele is hands down the best I’ve ever found. I’ve had extensions for 7 years and had never been told that having fine hair meant using fine haired extensions... it made all the difference in how it looked, felt and maintained the health and fullness of my natural hair. Her eye for color match is impeccable , making a flawless blend. She is also a sweetheart and a pleasure to be around, which is a big deal considering that it takes time to put them in and maintain them.

Crystal Amezcua Michele is such a skilled professional. Shes super sweet and honest about her recommendations. Her work is amazing. She definitely knows what works best for ones scalp. Shes the best at what she does. Super thankful for her work! Totally gained a bit more confidence with my beautiful hair!!

Susan White You cant find a better person than Michele (drop the mic!). I did my research and went for a consultation at Monterey Extensions with Michele. After listening to her knowledge I was immediately comfortable with my choice. Shes not going to tell you something if she doesnt believe it herself. She will tell you if its a good choice or if you should try something else. Above all else, Monterey Extensions (Michele, of course) wants you to be happy the moment you leave her chair. Michele has been styling my hair extensions now for over a year and there arent enough great words. If you get extensions, some may call it an investment. In a way it is. Gals and Guys, DO NOT RUIN YOUR INVESTMENT by having your hair done a different color after youve taken time and money to have the extensions put in. Michele will be more than happy to color guide you in the right direction and what will fit you and your new extensions. If you had extensions done somewhere else and she is kind enough to fix it...say thank you! Monica Guillen Best place overall! Amy give great customer service. I go to her for all my services! Super creative and makes you feel extremely comfortable. Best lash artist/nails artist and lip fillers! If you guys are in need hit her up!

Angelica Johnson- Dávila WARNING: If you are willing to receive non-stop compliments and head turning attention, then letting Amy work on you is the right way to go. Amy will make you look like an absolute goddess! She did my eyebrows and nails. Within 6 hours after leaving her salon my husband damn near re-married me, my colleague booked with her minutes after examining my nails and noticing the great quality of them and at one point I had to slap my sisters hand away because she was mesmerized and kept trying to touch my perfectly waxed eyebrows. I am telling you right now! Her work is professional and prudent, it definitely shows in the quality and results. So if you book with Amy be ready to look like a 5 star meal, irresistible. Youve been warned.

Kristina Galgani I was looking for a stylist who could cut short hair. Hard to find, but I finally did at Euphoria. Ashley was my amazing stylist. She listens, is very confident and does exactly as asked. It’s hard cutting hair the first time but she really knew how to deal with my crazy and “cowlicky” hair. So happy I found Ashley!

Anshanika Phetbenjakul I don’t trust a lot of people with my hair but Bo is definitely one I trust. I had an amazing experience with her! She helped revive my long hair and did a phenomenal job with coloring it. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great quality experience! Whether youre just in need of a trim or a complete hair transformation, the staff here will take great care of you.

Wendy Van Wyck Good Got a great haircut from Bree! She didnt try to sell me any products or services (which I appreciate) but just got to work giving me a thoughtful cut. She took her time, and cut my hair in stages to see how my natural curls reacted. Couldnt be happier with the result!

Rogers Hawley Jila, Mina and Co are great hair stylists and even better people. I had a 5 year patronage at Best Cuts back in the days when I had hair to cut (I rapidly descended into baldness after our twins arrived in 2017). Now I get to take my boys whenever theyre getting overly shaggy. Such is life!

Giselle Barsallo My and my two daughters are visiting Monterey and needed to blowdry our hairs. Were staying in the hotel in front of this salon. The ladies were really nice and everything was great, only downside is I think the price is too high, $50 per washing (we took our shampoo/conditioner) and blowdrying (simple blowdry)/per person. Dont know if its the regular price or its because were tourist and evidently only visiting for the day.

Maui Rat Dina is so good, I travel from Santa Rosa, CA to have my hair done. Started going to her about 10 years ago when I lived in that area, now I won’t go anywhere but to her. She knows what I want and only have to make appointment and show up.

Danielle Gibson The best priced haircut in the entire area! I have been to 6 different places, all costing me $100+ for a simple wash and cut. This place is welcoming, unassuming, and pays attention to what you ask for while also being meticulously detailed. Melissa is amazing as always and very personable and kind! $40 (including tip)

Ben Campbell Had an appointment at 12:00 noon. Waited for about five minutes. Cut took about 16 minutes. Brenda took time evaluating what hair I had on my head and used scissors to cut it and used a clipper to trim my neck and above my ears. Nice cut, nice place. Will go back often

sammy trebotich The lady there was super rude since I was a walk in. She didnt seem to actually want my money. I told her my basic haircut and she slaughtered my head. Worst haircut Ive had in years. Uneven lines, a lot of long hairs left behind the ears and back of my head. And she paid no attention to the hair style I told her I get. Go find a super cuts or Great Clips.

Justin White The best haircuts Ive ever received on the west coast. Im pretty sure Red (the owner) can do anything when it comes to hair. Ive come into the shop with an absolutely jacked up fro, and Red fixed me up right away. I was looking so good someone actually gave me their number later on that night. If youre trying to get a cut here, Red takes walk ins until about 2pm most days. I HIGHLY recommend coming here if you need to be fixed!

Renee Concentine Red has been doing my husband & son’s hair for years. She is professional, very talented but the best part is she refused to raise costs during trying times because she really cares about her customers! Go see her. Any cut, any type of hair.

Lillie Lemon I come here to see Sehra Evans for haircuts and color. Sehra is one of the best in the area, hands down. Shes creative, she loves her job, and shes well worth the price you pay for her time and expertise. The salon itself is really chic, with some great products if youre into buying salon grade haircare items. The staff is all friendly, and I have no complaints about the service. They even have coffee and tea for guests.

Amanda Brown Get Mina Kipfner (sp?), shes awesome! Shes done my hair twice now and Ive been overly happy with the results both times. She really pays attention to what you want and makes sure to tell you all your options. The salon is pricey but, Mina at least, earns it. Its my salon of choice.

Alisha Ziadeh This is such a great spot! I called last minute to see if they take walk ins and Sami was able to fit me in right away for a cut! She did such a great job and is super friendly ❤️ I would definitely recommend!

Alex Wilcox old me to come back in on Monday as they could fit me in for a root touch up. Perfect, my roots were a bit orange but not horrible. What did I walk out with?? A LEVEL 4 on blonde/rose gold ends. So basically BLACK. I should have just walked right out after she said “I should use a level five but I don’t have any, a level 4 should be fine”. I would have rather had what I walked in with. It wasn’t perfect but it was fine, livable, semi professional. I left after I literally couldn’t hold back tears and bawled in my car. I’m a pretty easy going roll with the punches type of gal but this has been an utter nightmare. If they didn’t feel they could fix it then why even try? I kept asking if it was still realistic to chase the blonde or if I should just go back a light brown until it can heal and grow out. Try again in six months to a year? They shot down that idea time and time again. So what am I out?? A mess that I fixed ON MY OWN for $55 using Joico (6NA). So I guess in total including the color remover , the gloss, and color I had to use to fix their mess. I am out $769 Something I could not afford when I was originally expecting between $250-290. Utter catastrophe. Completely heartbreaking. First pic is what I walked in with (blonde with warm roots, second is the black roots I walked out with, last pic (brown hair) is after I fixed it and the cut.

Uncle Rico I went here for a haircut and told the hairdresser to trim my curly hair. She heard this and decided to whip out the razor and buzz the sides and back and just leave the top. It looked absolutely horrible and I just decided to buzz my head the next day. It was not just that this was not what I asked for, but the proportions of the hair on top and on the sides were just terrible. I don’t think that anybody would want that cut. Definitely will not be back and would not recommend to guys looking for a place to get their hair cut.

Alexandra Tav Ive been to this salon twice, opting for different hairdressers on both occasions. Despite the change, I ended up with the same result, which I would rate as a C-. It appears that neither hairdresser was adept at cutting thick, wavy hair. Unfortunately, I wont be returning.

Carley Wika I called in late noticed and Sami was able to squeeze me in within the hour! She was so kind and did an awesome job on my bangs and trim! she asked all the right questions and gave me exactly what i asked for! The salon was so cute and in a great location!
