Hannah Fusco Love this place!! I’m so happy I stopped by last year to get a hair cut on a whim! My partner & I have been customer’s for over a year now, and Chrystal is the BEST! This photo is of the haircut. Color was done earlier, but the CUT!!!!! Chrystal always does such an amazing job with my really complicated, thick curly hair. I love the energy and the environment here, super chill, clean and friendly. They’ll having you look like your best self in no time!

Natalie Hara Ive been coming to Steel + Lacquer for years, but Chrystal is the stylist that has kept me coming back! Chrystal always puts so much care and consideration into each cut. I know I can trust her with big hair transformations (of which I have had many). I always appreciate my pre-cut conversations with her about what to expect with certain styles and how to create a look that is custom to me. As a hair styling minimalist, I am grateful that Chrystal takes the time to explain easily attainable ways to make my cut look like I always came straight from the salon. If you go to Steel + Lacquer, definitely book with Chrystal!

Michele Raska Where do I even begin! Ive been coming to see Jarrod at Steel & Lacquer since 2018. Jarrod has transformed my hair and its never been better! I came to Jarrod for the first time with very color damaged hair, and was struggling to get it back to my true color. And from that moment my hair began its journey of growth and health (and I absolutely love it). I’ve had haircuts, partial highlights, highlights, color, bang trims, and blowouts, and I trust Jarrod with everything! With that trust Ive seen a huge positive change in my hair. Ive learned about the products, tools, and techniques to keep my hair healthy and strong. On top of being incredibly knowledgeable, Jarrod is so kind, hilarious, and a great leader. Ive had the pleasure of getting to know many other on his team, and one thing I mega appreciate about Steel & Lacquer is that no matter who you see, it is a consistent experience every time. Ive always been someone who loves going to the salon, and each time Im here it feels like "home." Angela Van Gilder WARNING ⚠️ INEXPERIENCED I’ve decided to repost my review because the amount of money I have had to pay to repair my hair is MORE than what I paid for services. In September I came in and told the owner I have fragile hair and only use Wella or Lanza to lift because it doesn’t dry my hair. She assured me her Italian products were just as gentle. Her products FRIED my hair…..now 3 months later no amount of keratin or oil treatments has been able to smooth out the damage or repair it…..I am going to have cut off most of my hair!!! You can see if you look closely the white streaks in my hair!!! This is because for the entire hour she had the product on my hair she did NOT check my hair once to see how it was processing even though she sat 15 feet from the the whole time. So I have streaks of platinum blonde in my hair along with my hair just being totally fried. THE COLOR IS TOTALLY UNEVEN! She DID NOT use a toner. I’ve spent more than the $200 that was refunded to me in an attempt to heal my hair to NO AVAIL! My hair has just continued to fall out……… Don’t risk it folks no one should still be suffering 3 months later from damage like this!!! If you have fragile hair DO NOT COME HERE!!

S Durkin Hands down best haircut I’ve ever had. Connie listened to what look I was going for and we talked about what a haircut should make you feel. The best part- I have curly hair and the grow out has stayed just as fresh as the day she cut it! During my cut she kept me up to date on the newest looks from top fashion, how good the last book she read was and how she finds/selects the gorgeous products in the front. We browsed through the fantastic curated vintage and she styled me in the coolest outfit for pictures. Connie has an amazing eye and iconic taste. You can see it immediately when you walk in and will always find something new to drool over. I left with the perfect hairspray for my type of curly hair and a cut that’s lasted.

Ann Finegan Wow this order came super fast. A day early. Ordered based on friend recommendation and can say one application gave my aching thumb relief. Love a company that communicates well and goes above and beyond.

Liam Tran The staff here are great and friendly, and I got a decent haircut. However, I would not recommend coming here for a perm, especially for men. The products and equipment seem outdated, and they dont appear to have much experience with mens perms. I paid $200, which definitely wasnt worth it in my opinion. My hair ended up barely curly—just wavy—which wasnt what I had asked for.

Toni McMorris Excellent hair salon. Friendly, professional and skilled hair dressers. Price extremely reasonable. They did fabulous highlights for me, very natural looking and cut perfectly. Will definitely come back again in the future. They also cut men, women and children’s hair.

Renee Reed I came to Jenifer with a complete mess. My roots had been growing in for a year and there was a harsh cut off between my natural color and the blonde. The blonde I did have was yellow and brassy. Jenifer did a sort of balayage to fade my natural in with the blonde. She also toned my hair to make it look less orange/yellow. In addition to fixing my color, she gave me the best hair cut of my life and layered my hair perfectly how I wanted. Highly recommend!

J S Always a fantastic cut from Win and very affordable. I think she should charge more than she does, tip generously if you’re happy with your cut. Very personable, great sense of humor and loves to share her favorite foods and recipes. I have never been disappointed with my visit or haircut when i come to see Win. I would recommend her to anyone. She has many years of experience with hair and it shows. Very skilled with the scissors and clippers! I drive from the Outer Sunset for haircuts.

Dragon Games Very well priced and very kind woman!! She gave me exactly what I wanted and did a fabulous job! I have very thick straight hair and I love the style and my partner has very curly hair and she handled both types very well!

SA 1905 This will be my go-to place for a hair cut. Normal cut for females $23, with layers $28. No appointments and cash only. I recently moved and have been on the lookout for an affordably priced haircut. I spoke to Carmen in Chinese but she understands English just fine. I told her I wanted to trim off my split ends, maintain the layers and have a u-shape. She delivered.

Karen Allen Transformation accomplished!! Aric took me from played out brassy orange tones to beautiful icy balayage beach bombshell were down to earth, hospitable, kind and made me feel at home immediately. Highly recommend this salon and the magical, incredibly knowledgeable and talented Aric.

Julie Costa Aric did my hair today and he did exactly what I asked for. This was the first time I got my hair dyed and LOVED it. Hes a very nice man and is very professional. He aims to make the client happy. I will definitely be returning to him for future hair care.

Barb Hale I went to Aric to let my hair go grey. I had no idea how to do this but he sure did. He removed the color from my hair over a marathon session and added highlights to blend my grey and wowza! I was not expecting my hair to look at amazing as he made it look. I absolutely adore not coloring my roots every 4 weeks and my hair is stunning. I am 6 months out and only have had one touchup on highlights in that time. He is a magician!

Cynthia Golembeski Lisa is incredible. Very efficient, friendly, and talented. I came in to bring my hair length to my shoulders and remove 4-5 inches. The price is outstanding given the quality of the haircut but also the experience itself. Highly recommend to everyone--lovely, amazing, and accomodating. I would have spent 3-4 times the amount, which is the going rate in San Francisco.

Ini Li I dont usually post reviews but I have to for Mako at Arty Hair! Ive been going to Mako for my regular haircuts for several years now. I never had a regular hair stylist until her. Mako always gives me a consistent hair style for my thick, wavy hair just how I like it. Luckily I was seeing her for a haircut a few weeks before my wedding at City Hall and realized I had no idea of what to do with my hair. I asked Mako if she could style my hair and all I can say is, wow. She came up with a hair style that felt true to me and it stayed in place all day. Shes already a little hard to book (Im a last-minute kind of girl) so writing this review poses the risk that she will be even harder to book but I just had to write this glowing review. Im sure the other stylists at Arty are wonderful too!

Ru7dy I booked an appointment and got canceled last minute by the salon because they want to magically serve another client at the same time. Would not recommend this place to people looking for a simple haircut since they will prioritize other more valuable customers over you.

Kristina Solomita I had been wanting to get bangs but I didn’t know where to look. My friend suggested looking for stylists in the bay, and this was one of the highly recommended ones. I had never gone to a salon like this before and wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a pleasant surprise for me and my friend nonetheless. The staff was immediately very welcoming and friendly. They sat us down and we came to a quick understanding of what styles we were going for. We got our hair shampooed and heads massaged. During the hair cuts I immediately noticed how dedicated the stylists were at paying attention to every trim, and it looked better each time they did something new. At the end I got my hair styled as shown, and was even given another courtesy massage. Will definitely be looking forward to coming here again for a future perm!

Christine Su Jacob Andrade is so incredibly talented. He specializes in repairing color damage and rescued my hair from faded blue-green and box dye. The best and most natural (as natural as purple can get) highlights Ive ever had. Found Jacob through a friend who has the best highlights I know, and now hes my secret too. I wont be leaving Jacob!

Emily Bao is the absolute best if you have Asian hair and are looking to go blonde! He does amazing haircuts too!!

Ethan Mancil Hector did a great job helping me tame my quarantine hair lol. I was very apprehensive to cut it all off, and I know my hair is quite curly and difficult to cut. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted either. Hector worked his magic and I was definitely not disappointed - A+

Daniel Beckerman The only place my fiance approves of the cuts I get. Devon does great with my weird hairline and medium length hair, creating really nice layers. Small place with limited street parking, so try to get there early since you may need to walk a block or so if you drive and need to park. Definitely recommend him if you have weird hair that insists in going in random directions.

Wilda Batin Dr. Sammie truly has magic hands! I ended up at her salon after a curly hair specialist I had planned to visit in Redwood City was a no-show. Desperate for a cut, I searched online and called Dr. Sammie. She told me to come on in, saying, “I gotchu,” and she absolutely delivered. I have incredibly curly hair and don’t trust just anyone to cut it, so I was nervous at first. But watching her work with such ease and skill—it was clear she knew exactly what she was doing. Dr. Sammie has been cutting hair for over 30 years, and her expertise really showed. She handled my curls beautifully, giving me exactly the cut I wanted. It’s not about the type of hair you have—it’s about the stylist’s skills, and Dr. Sammie’s are unmatched. She washed, cut, and styled my hair at a great price, all while making me feel at ease. It just so happened to be my birthday, and she made the experience even more special with her humor, attentiveness, and amazing energy. I even learned a little Chinese during my visit! When she was done, I left feeling lighter, freer, and most importantly, confident. My curls looked amazing, and I couldn’t stop smiling. Her scissor work is so quick and precise—I was in and out in no time. If you have curly hair and need someone who knows how to handle it, I highly recommend Dr. Sammie. Her skills, honesty, and great vibes make her a true gem!

Jeanne Miller Winnie was referred to me for a curly mullet cut. I got lucky with a call ahead appointment. She gave me exactly what I asked for with a reference photo, and she encouraged me to take around the ears a little shorter. Im very happy with how it came out! Very nice and efficient, and she styled it with product before I left. You cant beat this price in the city. Bonus: the cable car runs right past the shop!

Arlyn Mendoza Sammie did a wonderful job with my curly hair, great price too. She cares about her customers and I felt very comfortable in the salon. She helped me achieve my curly hair style. I will be returning every 4 months! It felt impossible to find a curly cut for a great price and great service. I am grateful I found Sammie.

M W Jackie is an amazing hair stylist and goes above and beyond for her clients. She’s been cutting my hair for over 5 years and there is no one else I trust to cut my luscious locks. Her price point is amazing $25 for a men’s haircut which I’ve been telling her she truly should be charging more $30-35. If you want a great haircut by a kind woman go to Jackie! Make sure you tip!

Aisha Jamila Shah I came here for a simple trim, but felt very uncomfortable when she kept asking exactly how much in inches to take off. I said I wasnt sure exactly, but I wanted to keep the length and only wanted a touch-up to highlight my layers. She seemed confused and said a trim was the same as a haircut. I dont think she knew what she was doing, and the men waiting for a simple buzz cut didnt make me feel more encouraged to stay.

Rachelle Washington This is hands-down the most diverse, professional, and amazing salon in the city and the owner is absolutely amazing. They are usually booked up when Im able to get my hair done, but I was finally able to go and I was so happy with the results and hair care I received. I will be coming back pretty frequently.

Edna Snyder I had a great experience today at Hair Play!! It was my first time going and had looked up curly hair cuts in SF and this salon had come up as one of them. Booking on their website was easy and I appreciated the reminder texts. PEGGY WAS AWESOME! She is a lovely human. She listened to my requests and gave clear, reasonable instructions on how to replicate my style. I have curly hair and needed a trim/style and she did exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Highly recommend and will return to have her make my hair beautiful again! My only note about the salon is that the parking in the area is not easy to find so plan ahead! Beyond that - PEGGY IS AWESOME. *and also the receptionist, she was so friendly and kind*

Maya Oselsky After finding Rebecca’s page on IG, I immediately made an appointment! Extensions have been a game changer for me! I’ve been unhappy with my extensions for the last 4 months and I was looking for an extension specialist. Rebecca did an amazing job with my weft extensions! She took the time to talk to me about my hair and to understand my hair texture, hair concerns, etc. She identified the reason why I’m unhappy within a few minutes and fixed it! I’m thrilled to have a new hairstylist who is an expert on extensions and is committed to keeping my hair healthy while not giving up extensions. I love the location of the salon. It was fairly easy to find parking and the neighborhood is lovely to walk through.

Lars Johnson Kerrin started cutting my hair earlier this year and it’s been such a great experience every time! Whether it’s a clean-up or full haircut, she not only does a fantastic job, but she’s hilarious and always has fun(ny) stories to tell! Jessica Jacob Mia is a magician. I am mesmerized watching her cut my hair. My cut is fantastic every time, wash after wash. Lisa is fantastic for color. She’s very in tune to what will work on your skin tone and also responsive to more adventurous directions. :)
